Storage Door Will Not Open

Key will not turn in storage door lock to generator on 2021 Bay Star 3401. Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix other than replacing the entire lock assembly which will then need to be painted. Can reach up inside of door and open door and gain access to back side of lock. Thanks for any reply---Bruce

As was said try lube. Also push in on the latch handle to make sure it’s not partially out and jammed. Have you tried a second key or turned the key 180 degrees as it is a double bit key but only uses one side on the wafer tumblers.

Worse comes to worse, you will have to replace the cylinder and have it rekeyed to match your existing key. You won't have to replace the painted handle part.

2021? Have you tried the dealer? Should take a good tech a minute or two to replace the lock. No charge.

Thanks all for the replies. The door is not powered, I have lubricated the lock, and have pushed in on the lock and handle with no change. Will try reversing the key. Did not realize that you could replace only the cylinder so will look further into that.. Newmar customer service said the entire assembly would to be replaced--Bruce

To remove the cylinder you need a special key (called a change key or blue key) that releases the wafer that holds it into the housing. Unfortunately for that key to work the cylinder must be in the unlocked position.
A locksmith should be able to drill out or otherwise remove the cylinder sparing the handle.
You need the same blue key to install a replacement cylinder.
