Strange transmission issue
Had the coach out this weekend, and put a couple of hundred miles on it.
At the last stop, a strange thing happened.
I started the engine and put it into D, but only the left digit read 6, the right hand still showed N. Let off the parking break, and the bus rolled backwards, then I noticed the "gear" symbol lit on the dash warning lights.
Turned the motor off, restarted it, and all was fine, then proceeded to drive another 100 or so miles.
Anyone had this issue before ? I'm wondering if it's a sign of future failure, or just a fluke ?
Bus has 4600 miles on it ..............makes me feel real happy about Freightliner quality

I am having the same problem intermittently. Sometimes when I startup I get the transmission error and shift inhibit warnings. But I keep the engine running to air up and it eventually it goes back to normal. There are no codes generated and Freightliner has no idea what the problem is. Their suggestion was to take it to an Allison shop and have the ECU scanned. I am just ignoring it for the moment until it happens more frequently.

Could it be more of an Allison transmission problem than a Freightliner problem?

Try using the aux start button. It is possible the voltage is getting pulled so low that the computer gets confused.
The transmission computers may be close to your shifter thus making a long wire run to the batteries. This long run may contribute to low voltage while the engine is cranking.

Mine has done it at least twice. I attributed it to a cold transmission.

Could be a bad connection in the transmission ECM circuit.

Happened to me several times. I attributed it to low voltage and or cold transmission. The one time it happened, I immediately went to my Freightliner service center, and there were no codes. They checked fuses etc, but couldn't find anything. They thought low voltage as well

Post in the Allison forum.
There is a retired Allison engineer that hangs out there.

I just had a similar issue: push R but would not go, Neutral yes, Drive yes, but not reverse. Come to find out, if I pushed the R longer, it was no issue, went into Reverse with no further problems.
