Streaming Video via a Remote Cellular Data Connection

Anyone who uses a mobile cellular modem/router in an RV knows it is very hard to remotely access devices (such as web cameras) from the internet. It can be done but it is not easy or cheap. There are some hardware options to make it happen but it is very complicated. You could also buy a fixed IP address from a mobile carrier. Verizon wants $600 for fixed IP address on your cellular modem.

I just discovered a cheap Chinese made indoor/outdoor WiFi network camera that appears to get around this issue using a network protocol called P2P.

The camera is the SV3C Wireless Security Camera. In my NA I have a Pepwave MAX BR1 with an Verizon Wireless SIM hooked to the WiFi Ranger Pro. So the coach has great WiFi with full internet coverage anywhere it can see a Verizon tower.

I have been testing the SV3C camera for several days running in the coach with very good results. The SV3C camera is accessed using an IOS app CAMHI. My experience with these cheap Chinese cameras has been very poor in the past but the SV3C camera is an exception. Well made hardware and good software all for only $60.

With the IOS app you can view live streaming video from the coach or just take snapshots. All sorts of options for motion detection and on board storage via an SD card.

The camera has superior low light performance with its own built in IR lights. Here is an image from my NA taken last night using only the cameras built in lights.



For daylight shots the camera has a low light mode and a full color mode.

So whether you want this camera to monitor a pet or use the camera's motion detection to trigger a message on your smart phone we now have the technology to access a coach video source from anywhere in the world using a cellular data connection.

MyRozie does upload images from the coach cameras but these are timed images and are very low resolution. So far MyRozie does not have any functionality for security alerting.

Dynamic DNS is the answer for non-static IP address. Works great.

Does not work with double NAT found on cellular networks, unfortunately.

To the best of my knowledge all Verizon and ATT cellular data modems operating on LTE are "double NATed".

Verizon Wireless SIM & WiFi Ranger Pro

What does it Verizon Wireless SIM cost (is it a subscription, how much), does it only work with a cell phone, computer, banana (which ones).
How and what does the WiFi Ranger Pro connect to?

We found many park Wifi's spotty, weak and unreliable.

We would like to connect multiple wireless cameras. Is that possible with the Chinese camera options and the P2P protocol?

Cheap and easy system we use to monitor coach and give temp. readings to keep our fur baby safe is Blink cameras and Verizon Midi. Works well and relatively cheap and easy toninstall.

Newer versions of camera (like Ring) actually contact a server on the internet, you contact the server and presto video. This type of system doesn't require fixed IP of Dynamic DNS and provides storage if you want.
This is also how systems like Amazon's Echo, GE fridge, GE dishwasher ... all work, even the new Wifi Plugs by contacting a server at a fixed internet address and you display/control device connects to the server over the internet. Without getting to into the details these devices you standard IP ports that are considered outgoing connections and therefor work thought NAT devices and most Firewalls since outgoing connections are not considered a large threat.
