Suggestions on Selling Used Essex
We are looking to list our 2005 EXDP for sale in the near future and wanted some feedback from the forum on what has worked for you (or what you have heard from others). I saw some rigs on the IRV2 classifieds but they have been there for some time.
I looked up the NADA and thinking I would list for sale at or slightly below low retail for several months trying to sell on my own. But I believe it might be a good idea to consider a consignment sale from a reputable dealer who gets lots of traffic on Newmar units if no real activity after a few months.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Ken

I tried for 6 months to sell my DSDP on several websites and along a major highway.
I had it priced right and made it clear that I would consider offers.
I got more action from the roadside than from the internet.
None of the inquiries resulted in an offer.
I ended up consigning it to Lee (Lee's RV) and he sold it in a few weeks for what I was willing to take on my own.
I also called North Trail and Independence but they never returned my calls.

I know CoachLight in Carthage MO has had consignments and sold them but I don't know the details. They do get a lot of traffic. May be worth a call.

Thanks Dirk and Tom,
I will likely give Lee a call as he is the only dealer I really trust. I had worked with him back in 2005 - 2006.

The Newmar dealers don't charge a percentage, they offer you a net price, then try to sell it for more.
If they get an offer that would lower your net, they call and ask if you will take the lower net.

We tried to sell our Avion 5er fro a year, local ads, RVtrader, local small RV dealer and it was below, low retail and no luck. We finally put it at PPL Motorhomes in Houston and it sold in a month at high retail. You have to get is some place thbat get a lot of high-ticket items traffic. The local Pop up lot won't have a lot of sucess.

Float it on eBay. Do it several times trying a different strategy each time. In fact set a eBay alert on "Newmar Essex" to see what others are doing. Cost is negligible and you can see what the traffic might be for your unit. Set a reserve price and see what the bidding brings... Start bids high, start them low, add a buy it now price, etc..
Still lots of no sales (reserve not met) on eBay but a 2007 EX sold for $237,100 a couple weeks ago (item 110767118988).
