Super Star Owners?

Looks like the inventory is starting to build up at the two designated dealers. Anyone bought one that can give others your impressions? Thanks

I was seriously considering one. The things that turned me away are - they are extremely heavy for a single axle,under powered for the weight, very tall and the wheelbase is very long for a 40'. The wheelbase can be a plus or minus depending on your use and space to turn. The air cab is over kill. I had one with that chassis and engine combo and they ride and handle great with just the air seats.
Being a 1st year model I decided not to be a paying test dummy.
They don't seem to be flying off the shelf as North Trail still has the 1st one they got in about 3 months ago.

Watching ! Planning on going to the Tampa Super show this Jan and have a look. Hoping to hear of real world experience, power etc.

They have 2 single axle and one double axle at North Trail in Ft. Myers.

Besides towing capacity, what is the advantage of a Super C vs a Class A in the same price range?

While we have a class A now, in the past we had a class C and these were things I liked better.

A front end and motor out front to take a hit in the case of an accident.

Service is easier, especially on a super C with that big hood.

Cab doors, not just the house door.

Windshields are easier to get and less expensive.

All small things for sure, but at this stage of our life, late forties and still working, we didn’t want to spend the money on a super C. As we get closer to retirement and will be traveling more, we’ll look for one.


There are probably more, but I haven’t had my coffee yet [emoji12].

I think the main advantages over a class A are tow capacity and a cab with crash safety designed in.

The main disadvantage of the class A is you are the first to the scene of an accident. The advantage of that is you get several square feet of valuable living space. Everything is a trade off on any RV. All JMHO

Like az99 said, turning radius could be an issue and while I read opinions on both sides I really want to drive one to see how it feels. Think the lesser brands suffer from wind noise but I sure like all of that heavy frame and mass in front of me. Don’t really care to deal with NorthTrail but will see exactly how much they’ll discount one when we go to the Tampa Show. If it’s not more than 25% I’ll probably pass and drive a Renegade Verona. We had an Entegra Aspire for three seasons and it drove flawlessly so have recent Class A experience to use for comparison. We’re considering going full time and will have to augment the “short trip” LTV with something capable of yanking a stacker around. Not sure the Super Star has the necessary “suds” and the Supreme Star is beyond my means. Strange that seemingly NorthTrail hasn’t sold any.

We used to have a 45 ft. Super C. Many advantages as mentioned but main disadvantage is that many luxury resorts won’t allow them. We now own a 17 DS and can reserve anywhere.

The main advantage to me is they drive much better than a class A even a tag axle class A. The main disadvantage to me is lack of the front 10' for interior space and lack of luxury features.
The Renegade has very short and few storage cabinets underneath, a clunky interior step and a worthless awning except at noon.

I can't speak for Newmar but I have experience driving a similarly built Renagade 40 ft, which back in 2009 was 375K, I drove it over 3000 miles in 1 week.

If you like driving a semi truck (Front Engine) it is right up your alley.

I also had a class A FRED I put 31K on, FREDs didn't do well in the Class A market so I got a great deal on it and recently sold it and I can tell you it was a hard sell had to practically give it away, and the trade in value was 13K lower than I sold it for.

I just purchased a Ventana 4369 back in Sept, and it is like a dream to drive vs either of the above.

The Class A bus is much more enjoyable to drive with rear engine More like driving an electric car from a noise and vibration standpoint.

No doubt the build quality is Newmar level and beautifully done.

Time will tell.

At the Tampa show NorthTrail had two Super Stars and one Supreme on display. Didn’t even talk to a salesperson because if I want to purchase one it will be from another dealer (hopefully NIRVC or Midway) when Newmar broadens the number of dealers in play. In any case I went into the coach inclined to dislike the huge overhead cab window. Now I hate it, sure it will be great under a star lined sky in Montana but dang if I know why I’d have it open any other time. Shudder to think if it was broken and needed replacement. The rest of the features left me unimpressed I’m afraid, flat floor into the cab, the accordion connection (with long term wear concerns), etc. Will probably focus on Renegade for a while or fall back to Dutch Star. Any others have impressions after viewing the Tampa display?
