Supplemental braking system

Hi, folks! We need to replace the supplemental braking system on our toad and add it to our new motorhome. We have had the Unified Tow Brake system which is now the Smart Brake. We just saw two others and want your thoughts, experiences, etc., with them. They are the Brake Buddy Stealth and the Invisi Brake. Thanks for your help!

Hi Candy Girl,
I have had the Unified Tow Brake System for 11 years. It has performed in an outstanding manner. I would not consider another breaking system and would purchase this system again.

Have used the RoadMaster BrakeMaster unit with two different toweds and two different MH's. Works well and easy to install.

Gary, I totally agree with you. We have had the Unified Tow Brake on our former rig and toads and we did like it. Thought maybe these other systems might be equal just in case we can't find somewhere to get the newer version, the Smart Brake installed. We are not familiar with these systems. Sure hope we can get the Smart Brake installed!

I use an RVi brake system for the toad. It is non invasive and can go from vehicle to vehicle.

Supplemental braking system

Air-Force-One for air brakes on the coach, or sister is Stay-N-Play if not air brakes on coach... I love the easy flip a switch to turn it on and off... Sure beets the set up and removal process of the Break Buddy I used before (even though I kept it for alternate toad)...

+1 on the RVi brake. I have one of the early models, four years old, still easy and reliable to use.

I use an RVI Brake as well. We just changed toads from a 2015 Cherokee to a 2016 Grand Cherokee. I decided to get a new Breakaway switch, rather than remove the one from the old jeep. I called RVI placed the order and they included the stop plate/bar for the new jeep and the claw attachment to fit the brake pedal on the Grand Cherokee for free. Their customer service is A+.

I am using the RVi brake and like it. Prior to it I was using a vintage Brake Buddy that worked well. The RVi is easier to handle and you can control braking pressure and sensitivity from the MH.

I have had a US Gear Unified Brake System for 8 years. It was installed on my 2008 Tacoma 4x4 and a 2005 Sprinter based Class B van (Gulf Stream Vista Cruiser MB Edition). Four years ago I bought my 2012 Bay Star 2901 (when Newmar was building 3 a day) and it was moved from the van to my new Newmar Class A. It does a great job braking the Tacoma when the RV is trying to run away on steep downhill mountain grades and I love how easy it is to connect and disconnect my toad which uses a Remco DSC. It is also wired to keep my toad's battery fully charged while connected.

If I buy another toad I will be looking for another US Gear Unified Brake Controller or the Air Force One if a diesel pusher.

I'm setting up my new toad and decided to go with the M&G unit. I'll be putting it in next week. Looks to be a very easy install and once it's in, there is nothing in the toad cockpit. It's proportional and hooks up to the coach with a single airline so it's really easy/quick hookup. Downside is that they don't have them for all toads and it is not movable between toads if you swap them out frequently . For me that's not an issue as I usually keep them for several years.
