Surprising reason for front steps not working

Our front steps were stuck in the "out" position while docked in home port and we were scheduled to leave on a trip. Checked the suggestions we read on the forum, but still no working steps. We were worried the motor might be bad. BUT, thanks to our very knowledgable and helpful local RV service people, we learned the steps work off a magnetic interlock and the magnet is on the frame of the screen door. DH had recently removed the screen door because we don't use it and he wanted to see if the noise from the door area would be less with it out. Moved the magnet from the screen door to the RV door and the steps work just fine!

Always learning something new...never would have suspected a tiny magnet (or the lack of one) was the culprit.

Very happy the trip can go on as planned!

Was just explaining the functioning of the steps and which door actually had the magnet in it, last weekend to my wife. I didn't realize the actual control door until I was troubleshooting why my steps stopped working (wasn't the door missing ;-) ).
This is good stuff for others.

Being a new owner of a used mh, when I first seen the mag switch i thought it was some left over alarm sensor but after some research discovered it was for my power steps. Enlightening
