Tag Axle Hub Cover

2017 Ventana 4002- the hub cover on my Drivers Side tag axle came off going down the road. I got a new one from Newmar.

I have seen some pictures on this site in various posts on a separate topic where it looks like there is a bracket that holds the hub cover in place.

There is no bracket on mine so I am wondering how this works? I was thinking you just pop it on but I could be wrong about that.

On mine both the drive axle and tag axle have deep covers with a central screw that holds them to a bracket. Only the steer axle has pop-on covers that can bounce off going down the road.

To keep the front hub cover on in the front a couple of small dabs of clear silicone strategically placed will do the trick. I learned this after losing 3 hubs on our smooth highways.

These are the ones Newmar uses on the 2017 Dutch Star, not sure if they use them on the Ventana. They do just pop on. I lost one last week. once you take them on and off a few times the clips that hold them on get weaker. I bought a couple of them. Newmar sells the emblem that goes in the center for about $12 ea. they also sell generic ones for about $3 ea.

I guess Freightliner changed the hubs when they introduced the passive steer tag.

How about the other side?

That looks like very little depth is required ... is it a hub cover similar to the front wheel (steer axle)?
