Cool Thinking about pulling the trigger

I found a Dutch Star 4374 with a little over 13,000 miles on it. It has the kitchen forward floor plan, which is something I have never seen. I've not driven the coach and have only had a short (20 minute) walk around.

It's at Independence RV in Winter Garden, FL. Haven't heard much about this dealer, but they are a Newmar dealer and have a lot full of new coaches. I did drive a new Dutch Star, just to try out the Comfort Drive system...simply amazing.

The price is $259K, which I believe is a little steep. I'm thinking more in the neighborhood of $220ish. By the way, they dropped the price from $279 las week.

What are you thoughts or advise?

Hi Dr. Q,
Floor plan sells the coach. It will make or break your love affair with the coach. While the dealer is important, there is a one year warranty. Many of us use the factory service in Nappanee. It is a good excuse for a trip to an area one may not have visited or wants to revisit. One can go insane trying to compare this feature and that feature. Consider not doing this. Find the coach you like and go for it.

I have found people like and dis like both previously mentioned dealers. That is about what one would expect. You should be able to get the the best deal this time of year from either dealer. Once the snow birds leave their business tanks until they return in the fall. For me 30% off MSRP should be doable.

Make memories while you can.

Cool

Thanks GaryKD....

Yeah, the wife likes the floorpan, so that's an obstacle overcome already

I have been looking at NADA to determine a price to offer. I know the rule of thumb of 30% off MSRP, but on a used unit, I'm not sure that calculation fits. I guess I'm looking for a reasonable % off of average retail that makes sense. It's a nice unit and it might be worth what they are asking, but I doubt it is.

I bought my 2014 DSDP 4018 from Independence and found the entire operation to be outstanding, both in sales and service. No problems with returned phone calls. They hold the Mehlen Miller Newmar Service award and do excellent and timely work.

I bought my Dutch Star at North Trails. Got a great price and the PDI was exceptional. They worked with me till I was almost overwhelmed. Thank god I videoed it. I'd go back in a heartbeat.

Keep in mind no matter how they got it, auction or trade in, they only paid wholesale. Find that, then throw in a reasonable profit for them. The more knowledge you have, the stronger you're negotiating will be. Be prepared to walk away if they don't come down. It's not your responsibility to give them a huge profit. There's an old saying when negotiating after an offer has been made....first one who speaks...loses!

Cool

Where do you find wholesale value of a motorhome. NADA has has Low and Average Retail, but I can't find Wholesale or Trade-In pricing.

If youre paying cash, make a low ball offer and see where it goes from there
if youre financing it, find out the lenders maximum loan amount and let that be your offer, and go from there
if they are selling, then they are willing to talk and negotiate
also, if this was a trade-in(probably so), I'm sure they didnt pay wholesale

: ) my two 'sense'

Hi Dr. Q,
Sorta go with what has been said. I add this:
If this is the coach for you, write a sales agreement for 70% of what they are asking. Give them a deposit (sizeable deposit). They will have a tough time turning down the deal. Any trade should be handled separately.

Cool

Gary....that sound good and I would have a cash deal. The coach is $259K, so 70% would put me a ~ $182K. At first flush, that amount seems unreasonable to me... Coach is 2014 Dutch Star 4374 with 13,000 miles...

But, if we decide to go forward, I will try your suggestion..all they can do is say no and provide a counter offer....

Thanks!

Gary is spot on. Wholesale for that coach , assuming it is a 2013, is $175
