Time from build finish to Factory pickup

Trying to determine if factory pickup is going to work for us in terms of timing. Does anyone know as of right now how long it is from when coach is all completed until you are able to do factory pickup? I heard currently it's somewhere between a 2-4 week wait? Just looking at our options as we have to finalize in the next few days before we are locked in for build.

Thanks!

Don't bet your life on any number you are given. Availability of a tech. is one variable but also don't assume the "offline" date you are given is fixed. Our coach came offline 2 weeks later than the original date we were given.

Newmar spends that time going over your coach with a fine tooth comb. fixing every issue they discover. I personally would not rush them, the more they find the less you will!

I was at Independence RV today - they told me that if they ordered a coach next week, they were being told it could be March before delivery. When I checked a few weeks ago they were booked over 12 weeks out. The Hershey show sales could end up adding 6 to 8 weeks to the backlog. So, I would keep that in mind.

6-8 weeks added to delivery?

If they sell 60 coaches and Newmar builds 8-9/day or 40-45/week how does that add 6-8 weeks?

Hey bud for what it is worth the Newmar factory guys I met before I went down for surgery said factory delivery doesn't delay it long. When I order it will be in advanced for a further delivery date so that's a little different.

That is just for the show, plus regular orders coming in. My dealer, in off season, told me they sold 8 coaches this week. He is a Florida dealer So, they sold a full week's build themselves. I was just reporting what he told me, he said it might be March before they would get the my coach.

I know that Newmar builds and places coach orders in line when orders are received. I also know that if a Dealer has ordered a coach for his stock, he can change that particular order to match what the buyer wants and speed up the process. Newmar orders it's chassis based on demand.

I am ordering a Canyon Star, so they order the Chassis from Ford when they get the order from the dealer.

Finally, another factor is the type coach you order. The Dutch Star is Newmar's most profitable and best selling coach (again what a dealer told me), so they may have more "slots" for them in their production line.

The reason Newmar has survived the downturns in the market better than most companies is their order policy. They don't have a lot of unsold units sitting around on the dealer's lots. Currently they are basically only building pre sold units.

Here is the link to an old thread on the number of units. I'm sure the number is close to what is listed on the attached thread. 8-10 per week. Early in the year they laid off some people since they cut back slightly the number that are built.

There are a lot of variables...

There are dealer orders...on the books...which a lot of dealers stagger for inventory control. There are "slots" that dealers reserve in advance of big shows for customers wanting to special order. Then there are regular customer orders. Where you fall in the build timing can be affected by chassis and parts ordering...when it's finally built...it goes to paint for 4 weeks...then final prep...then to post construction to go over it again for CPU.

We ordered on 9/12/2015...and hoped to get a jump on the Hershey Show orders... Many of those went ahead of us because the dealer had already reserved slots. Long story short...we ordered 9/12/2015...found out our CPU date on 11/4/2015...in production 12/4-9/2015...CPU started 2/1/2016. But everyone will have different results...so this probably doesn't help much.

I was told by Newmar customer service that they only build coaches that have been ordered.

My unit was completed on 9/12 and our FPU is 10/10...lost a week for the Int'l Rally....so 3 weeks.
They met the published schedule that they gave me which was important to me because I flew to the factory to watch my build and we received the finished pictures on 9/12.
Hope that helps.

Bill,
I'm thinking of going go factory for build as well. If yours was completed on 9/12, approximately when did the build start? Our finish date we are being told is 11/11 right now. So far it's been moved up twice! My dealer said they'll have exact build dates in 2 weeks but just trying to get an idea to see if flying up will even make sense.

Thanks!

Maybe this will help (2017 London Aire with factory delivery)

Order date 5/12/16
Into Bld 23 8/1/16
Into Bld 7 8/3/16
Out Bld 7 8/8/16
CQI release date 8/22/16
Projected ship date 8/25/16

Factory delivery start date is 10/3/16 which is 1 week late because of the rally.

Perfect, thanks. That gives me a good idea of build schedule, wasn't sure on how long build takes total. Seems like it's about 3 weeks total.
