I have the 8700 series toilets and would like to replace the seats with Slow Close or Quite Close seats. I remember a thread that discussed doing this and getting them from HD or Lowes. Well I ordered one and the bolt spacing is wider than the HD one I ordered and it doesn't fit, so who has done it and what model did you use??? Thanks BillK

I've looked and the bolt spacing is unique to Dometic, probably for a reason $$$$$. I would also like a slow closer.

I replaced mine in a '04 Dutch Star with a "Church" brand from Lowe's. It fit and works just fine. Nice product. It was installed on a Sea/Land toilet, I do not know the model number.

i got one right off the shelf at lowes, i took measurements and had no problem finding one to fit

Can't give you numbers either but put one on my dometic porcelain toilet for my 2000 Dutchstar. Take a hole measurement for accuracy. Best decision for a good nights sleep getting rid of the slammer seat.

The 8700 model has about a 7.5 inch spacing on the mounting bolts. Standard house fixtures are 5.5 Inches. If you don't have a Dometic 8700 series your answer doesn't answer the question. Does Dometic sell a No Slammer seat for this model?? Also need an almond color.

Let me take a slight turn to the conversation. I'd like to install a slow close seat but I can't figure out how to get to the bolts without removing the toilet. There's no room to get my yugely large manly man hands behind/under/or between the wall and the toilet. Is there a secret or a tool?

Since you asked about tools to remove your toilet seat, I'll add this. On the hinges on top of the toilet, the part of the hinge that you see, there is a cap that finishes off the hinge, it pops open with a little bit of effort. You might want to use a flat bladed screwdriver. Once opened, there is a Phillip's head, the one with a "+", use a phillips head screwdriver. Use one of an appropriate size, they come in numbered sizes like #1, #2, #3 and are available at any hardware store. Unscrew the set screw inside that mounting hinge. On the bottom, there is likely a nut that has a arm that will contact the side of the toilet and keep it from turning while you are unscrewing the top screw.

To reassemble the toilet, you will need a deep-socket or two and a long extension of about 6-8" or so and a ratchet. Available at hardware stores. Be sure the sockets and extension are of the same size, 1/4", 3/8" so they will fit together as a set. That is the size of the connecting points, not the size of the sockets.
These extensions are so you will be able to reach up into the cavity at the back of the toilet. Use a mirror laying on the floor to see what you are doing up inside that cavity.
Don't even bother using a wrench, it will not fit and just cause frustration.

This is not difficult and will take all of about 5-minutes, after you get your tools. I know you can do it. I think most models come with instructions. If still in doubt, go to Lowe's or Home Depot and look at the hinges on each brand. It will help you size the sockets that you need.
