Total loss of power after shutoff
...this is the second time it happened and very unnerving, and dangerous to say the least.
The issue is that when I shut the engine down, I cannot restart it soon thereafter. There is a total loss of electrical power... no dash lights, no horn, no headlights, total blackness, etc. Pretty much like a dead battery. Whatever is connected to the house batteries are working. Whatever is connected to the chassis batteries (three years old) are not working.
The first time it happened the power came back on within five minutes of just messing with the ignition or just waiting. The second time... nothing. Still dead. Both times I am so lucky that I was already settled into my spot before shutting the engine off. Something told me not to shut it down, so I left the engine running until I was fully positioned, etc. When I turned off the ignition, zilch. All power gone.
I messed with the ignition for awhile, banged it, changed keys, etc. Messed with the main battery switch and still nothing.
Any ideas?

Try cycling the battery disconnect switch for the Chassis batteries

Try cleaning the battery terminals on the coach batteries. May fix it, easy to do and zero cost.

Look to see if you blew the 150 amp fuse, located under a protective cover in starting engine battery compartment. In the picture the far left fuse has been changed out with symptoms like yours.

If your batteries are the flooded lead acid type they gas off and corrode your cable connections, cables, and ground connections. They need cleaning if a VOM shows a charged battery bank and no go on the starter until the starter feels like working again.

Your power solenoid has bad contacts. The switch is not rated to carry the high load of all the 12 volt ignition load, so the manufacturers install a 12 volt solenoid to carry the load. Find the solenoid. Test for power going in on the small wire. (with the switch on.) If you have power there check for power going out of the solenoid. I think you will find one side hot and the other side dead. Replace the solenoid.

I will clean the battery terminals and see what happens. I don't think the fuse is blown because the power came on again, however I will check it too. I will check other contacts/grounds too.
Where is the power solenoid located?
Geez, it seems like I am always having problems with some type of solenoid. Had to replace the step solenoid last time and then the hydraulic solenoid had to be replaced.

FWIW I'm trying to figure out what the BIRD solenoid has to do with dash lights. After you clean the battery terminals follow the cables and I think you will come to a relay or fuse and relay box that controls the dash among other things.

Just a thought, I had a 2007 Itasca Meridian with a cat C7 350. I experienced the same issue for several months. I tried everything without any success. The Freightliner hotline had me check the relays that are part of the chassis electrical system. One was hot so he sent me all new relays. When I received them, they were different than the ones installed. Mine were 24 volt and he sent 12 volt relays. They, Freightliner, installed the wrong wiring pack. After putting in the proper relays, 9 years of perfection until it became a Dutch star. It’s worth a look.

The solenoid is in the BIRD system if not functioning correctly coach can not start, nothing to do with dash lights.

I don't see how the BIRD is involved...he is losing all power from the engine/chassis battery.
