Towing a Dutch Star
We had an overheating issue recently and used CoachNet to call a towing service. The tow driver looked at our coach and said that it was not towable because it has IFS and was too low. After the coach cooled down we were able to drive to a nearby repair shop so that towing was not needed.
This concerns me very much. Has anyone else had a similar experience? We really like our coach and it drives really well but I don't want to get into a situation I can't get out of. Thank you in advance for any ideas!

You need a different tow driver. Both our 40' '02 DSDP and present 45' Magna are IFS and both have been towed. The Magna sits lower and weighs about 15,000#'s more.

You needed a better tow truck operator. What kind of rig did he have? If it was a flat deck, yes, you could not get on a ramp. Require a rig that can raise the front end.
I just had this issue recently. Me and the tow company had a discussion.

Definitely a different tow driver. Did you tell CoachNet that you had an IFS? I have been towed 3 times and must be towed by lifting the front end by the tires. I'll try to get a picture of the lift. The tires fit in the C or actually 3 sided square shaped C and then lifted off the ground. A picture would be better than my feeble description. I have IRS and low body parts.

Also note that if you are going to be towed any distance--the drive shaft has to be disconnected so output shaft of Allison tranny doesn't turn--no fluid circulated to lube the output shaft, if the motor isn't running. And air pressure for service brakes and parking brake needs to be supplied to coach. Then tow away......

As others have commented the tow driver was the problem. Coach-Net does not employ the tow company, they contact a local tow comoany and handle the need on your behalf. Did you call Coach-Net back and discuss with them?

Towing a Dutch Star
Here are a couple pics when we had to be towed. The wheel lift was assembled under the front while air bags fully deflated and low to the ground. Did not air up till we were ready to leave and wrecker had air hooked up.
Agree not a coachnet problem. That was a wrecker driver/company problem.

Steve, agree.
In my case, my ESP sent a guy with a tilting flat deck. After much discussion between the operator and the dispatcher, they came to realize there is no way my coach is going up on that deck.
Fortunately it stopped raining and I found the reason for my low air issue and I sent the tow truck on his way and drove to my destination.
Lesson I learned is that if I am in a position to call for a tow again, I wil know to insist on the right rig for the job.

2004 Nemar Dutch Star 41' Cummins 370
Do not feel alone, we broke down in Maryland last Tuesday night on the side of Route 100. I called Family Motors and thought it strange that I had to give all my MH info after giving Membership info. They were very accommodating and I was very specific concerning size of MH. About an hour later, up pulls a huge tow truck. The driver got out and checked and said that because of the generator being up fron, his bar would not reach the chassis.
He ended up following us to a Cummins Factory 3 miles away and a "couple of days later" we were on our way along with a $1400 bill.
Bottom line, the driver said that he needed a longer extension and I am now researching the correct tow truck for the future!
PS. Family Motors does not handle towing ext. but hands it off to a company VAS. Which will be my next call!
