Towing for 2016 Ventana 3436

I recently purchased a 2016 Ventana 3436 360 HP and want to tow a vehicle. I looked at the specs and it gives me a 5,000 lb towing capacity. Most vehicles are around 5,000 lbs. Does anyone tow their vehicles with other "stuff" in them? Is the manufactures limit a suggestion or should one abide by the lbs?

Sounds like you might have a Ventana LE. In any case, not only do you need to take tow capacity into consideration but also the GCWR which is the total weight of the loaded RV and tow vehicle. I wrote a blog post about how running these numbers convinced me to move up to a Ventana from a Ventana LE.

With our 2014 Ventana LE 3436 (340 HP), we had the same 5,000# hitch, but felt more comfortable limiting ourselves to about 3,500#. The 2014 Honda CRV filled that niche quite well. Unfortunately, in 2015, Honda went to a different transmission in the CRV and newer year models now cannot be towed 4-down.

Personally, I wasn't comfortable pushing the limits.

Towing

I have a 2001 Dutch Star (330 hp Cummins) and found a nice used 2104 CRV to tow. It is within it's capacity and works well. The newer (2015+) CRV's have CVT transmissions as previously mentioned and aren't able to be flat towed as mentioned before.

With the 360 Cummins and the 3000 Allison transmission you will find that you have a 10K towing rating. This is typical of the Ventana line under 40'. I'm curious what specs you were checking.

That site is wrong as far as tow rating. Check Newmar web site for more accurate ratings. I don't put much faith in third party web sites. Looking at the MSRP, the figure quoted is likely for the LE series, not the standard Ventana.

Here is a page from the 2016 3436 brochure. It states the GCVR (coach and tow car) is 45,000, versus the GVWR (coach only) of 35,000. As to the towing capacity of the coach, it can handle 10,000.

The brochure doesn't speak to the rating of the hitch, which you would also have to verify before proceeding. I believe this should be indicated on the hitch itself. It seems unlikely Newmar would install a 5,000 hitch on a coach rated to tow 10,000.

Towing for 2016 Ventana 3436

I believe one of the limiting factors is the LE has the Allison 2500 transmission

Towing for 2016 Ventana 3436

The tow ratings of the hitch was changed a few years ago. On the hitch, there should be label from Freightliner that says 5K tow rating. 10K with a weight distribution hitch.

It’s the Allison 2500 that is the limitation. The information above is 2019

May have read it wrong but the OP said he has 360 HP. That would be a Ventana. I have the same with the 3000 Allison.

My 2013 Ventana came with the 10K rating and 2 years later received the new label. Still have it.

You may be right, I picked up on “LE” from the second post.
My mistake
