When towing a coach the drive shaft is removed - not the axle-& the rock guard is taken off as it will drag They will pick it up under the front axle , make the air connection up by the generator for your air brakes & have you put the flashers on.

Good luck & have your wallet full as its very expensive!

Happy Trails

Both axles or the drive shaft can be removed. Axles easy but creates a mess with oil. Driveshaft a bit more difficult to get to and keep the small parts together for re-install.

I guessing it is on a Spartan chassis. On ours, included in the manual was a "How to Tow" section that spells out the proper procedure to tow it. I keep a printed copy in the compartment over the driver's seat so I can hand it to the tow truck driver. I haven't needed it (knock on wood) but I am prepared. I remember seeing a download somewhere, I think it was Spartan RV chassis website but it may have been on irv2. Never assume that the driver knows what they're doing.

I had my London Aire towed two years ago. They removed the drive shaft and rock guard. However, there was damage to the generator exhaust pipe. They paid to replace it.

DrDonny, if you are on a Spartan chassis, they publish specifics on what should be done to properly tow.
Might check or call them for direction.
Best of luck on the tow.

Make sure they use a Bus Lift..... the mechanism that lifts via the front wheels. I've had to be towed 2x in the past year and you wouldn't believe the bozo's and undersized equipment the road side service sent. I sent them back until we got a knowledgeable person with the right equipment. I did not have to remove the genset exhaust as the bus lift give enough outside clearance. The first time I removed the rear mudflap, the second time I just bungeed it up. Both times they removed the drive shaft.

Mims towing in Clanton , Al near Birmingham towed me with no damage and even moved to center of road to miss possible tree branches several times. . Would highly recommend if ever in the area. Did remove draft shaft since it would not make a mess with oil and reinstalled it.

Make sure they tape the U-Joint bearing caps to the disconnected ujoint so they don't get lost and so grit doesn't get into the joint during the tow.
Knuckehead tow operator forgot to do that to mine and the bearings were missing once it got back to the destination. That forced a half a day of investigation to find the right part and the $200 or so to buy it plus the time to replace it.

I hope you didn't pay the $200. The tow company would be liable for that just like they're liable for any damage they do.
