Trouble Shooting: Baystar Sport - No power to coach.

Happy 4th everyone!!

This morning I tried starting our 2016 Baystar Sport, but when I opened the RV door, the electric steps did not greet me as they usually do.

The chassis stats up just fine, but the coach is dead.

The kill switch was set to the OFF position, so we shouldn't have lost power overnight.

Seems like it should be a fuse or breaker, but I just bought the RV and do not know it well enough to hunt down every possibility.

I am going to go into town and purchase a voltmeter to see if I have any power at the batteries.

I am also going to see if shore power is working but in the meantime. I'd love some input and instruction from the board if you guys have some.

Thanks so much!

If your coach is wired like mine , coach battery power is required for the steps to operate.

The switch " 007 " referred to is the one you're calling a kill switch .

Other names are " Coach battery disconnect " and " Salesman switch "

If you've already turned the switch on, and the steps don't work , then you'll need that volt meter and a 12 volt test light.

Yeah.. Coach battery controls the steps, even if the disconnect switch is off.

Once turned on, the rest of the coach becomes operational but that is not happening.

So either there is zero power to the batteries or there is a loose wire after the batteries, before the steps.

No idea why the batteries would drain though.
Still need to get a multimeter to test the batteries but for now, I have shore power hooked up to get my work done.

Waiting to see if the shore power charges the batteries.

I had the same problem !
Even with the disconnect switch off there is still a slight parasitic draw on the batteries. ( ask how I know). You need to disconnect the NEGATIVE post AT the battery either by removal or with a disconnect switch. OR use a "battery mnder" trickle charger to maintain the battery charge. Even with mine disconnected, I still need to "top off" the charge every month or so .

(These are new batteries from 4/20 )

On my 2019 Bay Star Sport the steps are powered by the chassis battery so they will operate even with the house batteries turned off. While many coaches do have a “salesman” switch the BSS does not. It has a manual disconnect switch which in my 3008 is located above the entry door. It does not disconnect everything but it certainly should prevent the batteries from discharging for several weeks. I’d look for a loose or dirty connection at the battery. If none of the lights or other 12V items work and you are sure the disconnect is “on” then you almost certainly have a battery/connection issue.

Check out my post: 3014 DC power heads up
I also noticed the issue when my steps wouldn’t come out.
The house batteries were flat because they weren’t charging, I put the plug in receptacle & everything works fine now.

It is a mistake to allow any mechanical object to realize that you are in a hurry.
