Just inside the rear engine doors, tapped into the power supply to the compartment light.

Mine is in what would be the washer/dryer closet. Power is from the light in the other closet. I don't have washer/dryer.

I assume you are using sensors on the toad as well as the coach? I just wanted to mention I installed my TST system 5 yrs ago only on coach (43') and no repeater was required.

I use my "TST" on my 38' coach with toad, and need no repeater!
Very accurate, & no issues!

Thanks to all for the quick responses. I do have a toad that I will be adding sensors on. I have read that the repeater was not needed. I guess I can try it without and see how it performs. Coach is a 45 ft Essex.

On some Newmar models - mine - the 7 pin hot lead is only active when the ignition is on. I tapped into that 12 volt at the rear outside of the RV and this way, I am not drawing any battery voltage except when I’m driving.

What is a TST transponder and why do you need one? Is this something new?

What he's calling a transponder, I believe TST calls the repeater. I need on to see my toad sensors behind my 40' DP.

I did exactly the same thing on both of my DPs.

I tried running without the repeater on my 2014 Dutch Star (40), but it often would drop out. TST thought it be remote thermometers I was using, causing the interference. I finally installed the repeater and no further issues.
On mine, I installed it in the engine battery bay at the rear of the coach. I mounted it to the front wall with a self tapping screw. I powered it from the start batteries with a fuse.

Thanks to all for your information. Looks like I’ll be putting it in the bay with the chassis batteries

Yes. You’ll definitely need the repeater on your Essex.
Our 43’ DS absolutely needed it and I mounted it on carpeted wall of the bay just north of the battery bay. I prefer to have it protected; there’s a 12v power block right there.

I mounted the repeater inside the half bath. Tapped into the 12VDC fuse panel inside the overhead cabinet on an empty spade. Works fine on our 45' coach and CR-V toad.
