TV and cell service in canada

Traveling up thru Canada this summer, lt seems there is a lot of unknowns with Direct tv service and cell service (ATT). Called Direct tv, talked to someone who i suspect didnt even know what an RV is ??? Said they do not service anything outside of US. (she was obviously not in US ????). going by local ATT dealer tomorrow to see what they have to say. Anyone have input on these issues or anything that would be helpful to know when north of the border??

Dennis, Your Direct TV will work just fine in Canada. Your cell will also work well, albeit not cheap. Roaming charges are typical of Canadian services, over priced.

However, the Canadian dollar is cheap, about 1.33 per U.S. buck.

Traveled to Canada many times east to N.S., P.E.I. and across to Alberta using Verizon service, ATT maybe OK.
Believe Direct TV has additional cost for service and programming needed.

I am leaving Alaska this week for the lower 48, went to ATT and signed up for the unlimited plus data package, this gives me free Canada and Mexico service unlimited data and for 35.00 I get 60 direct tv channels including HBO. There is a sight that Mr Google led me to that has a map of ATT coverage in Canada. From Alaska it is kinda spotty with coverage mainly near and around the cities like Whitehorse, Watson Lake ect. once you get further down closer to the lower 48 it gets better. But the good part is if your cell phone works Direct TV will work, Good Luck, have a great trip.

Thanks so much, it is always amazing how RV'ers know more about almost any subject than the companies that provide them to us. My DW says you all are my social media outlet. looking forward to our trip thanks again.

I am currently in Dawson City (Yukon), my Direct tv stopped working in Whitehorse so I suspect that the further north you travel the more likely you will lose the signal.

Satellite radio still works and my Verizon phone has signal 95% of the time when on the road.
