I am on a quest, but don't want to reinvent the wheel, so looking for up front advice. On our 2007 coach Newmar refused to provide a 32" TV because they would fit because of some front cap restriction (of course they are now standard for 2008 with the same front cap, but another topic!).
Our story.....we have the 26" standard LCD and we want larger. But, we also want it lower. Getting a crick in the neck watching it as high as it sits, however, like the use of ceiling height, vertical mount real estate when not watching. So....we are thinking that some sort of mount that would allow the TV to be lowered would be good, then it would have to raised and affixed if need be for travel.
Have found some "lifts" that look somewhat promising. However, have received no response to inquiries to two different companies that make/install such hardware. So I'm thinking that they weren't perhaps prepared for the questions about mounting them upside down.
What do you think? Is this not doable? Should we be moving to something else to modify or continue pursuing a more comfortable viewing angle.
Love hearing others ideas, so thanks very much up front for all your responses.

Hi DonnaB
I too am on a quest. I've decided to install a 32"LCD HD Tv up front. I want a unit that has a front loading DVD player built in. I just yesterday finished installing a 26" LCD HD TV in the bedroom. It is a Westinghouse 26" LCD TV with a front loading DVD player- Sam's Club, $546. It is mounted on the "dresser counter" in front of the window, with the Satellite receiver tucked into "box" which I made of oak to match the interior decor. It is a slick setup, plus it freed up more area for storage. The Amish are making me a new door to fit over the old 20" tube type TV's cabinet hole. When I get to Maine next spring, we spend 5 months there, I will have High Definition TV in both the front and rear- (we have DirectTV). I have an antenna installed for HD that remains there.
I am going to take the rig up to Amish country in early May, and have them remove and re-design the front overhead unit, and install the new TV, and associated wiring, etc. That will remove the old DVD/VHS from the rig. I have a center door on my rig which eliminates the entry hazard posed by a TV hanging down.
I'll have to wait a while to equip the rig with an HD Antenna, because that industry is in a state of flux right now-- read other threads on Satellite antennas for motor homes.
Good luck on your Quest---

Thanks Tom for that link now all we have to do is have a cabinet made up for the size of LCD.
Newmar may not want to get involved with a ceiling mounted TV because of vents and duck work in ceiling all ready. The lift idea looks good and the cabinet we have now could be alot more shallow and the LCD would be alot lower so you will not have a stiff neck.

Tom in Salem...thanks so much for this link. I have googled everything I could think of and never came across this. It is exactly the kind of thing we are looking to do. Interesting that no prices are shown and you have to call and speak to someone to have any idea of the cost. I'm sure this will make it a gasp'er.
Max Hubrich, we have a Winegard automatic antenna that Newmar installed & it brings in digital channels and HD broadcasts. No cable/satellite though as we opted to just receive regular antenna broadcasts. The only caveat is that we can watch digital or analog, but you have to switch between them on the TV setup before you can channel surf from one to the other. That may be the Bravia TV setup process and have nothing to do with the antenna, however.

I think I saw a TV mounted on the ceiling that pulled down for viewing on a very expensive Beaver coach. I will see if I can remember where it was and link it for you. We are on a similar quest, trying to figure out how to mount one on the ceiling so it can be pulled down for viewing.
