Ok,that makes more sense. I have that big Sony amp too. I’ll have to play with that. So I guess I didn’t get the “universal remote” that was on the option list. Last owner probably took it with them. Oh well no great loss. Thanks for the clarification. I couldn’t imagine paying $192 for that cheap looking Sony remote. Mystery solved!

The one I got was Gray, one model older. I wanted to reprogram and river park gave me access to original program.. The option costs more than the remote since it comes setup for your av system..

R.Wold, The sony remote is not what the $192 paid for. The sony remote is what came with the device (AV receiver?). The Harmony remote is used in place of the more limited Sony remote. It can be programmed for the TV, the AVR, the bluray player etc so there is one handheld remote for the whole system. Additionally, it can be programmed to execute "macros" (sequence of instructions). The whole reason for a deluxe remote is to make it easier to use the complete system once it is programmed correctly.

If you can use what you have and all seems to work, then all is good. You can also purchase a smart remote and have it programmed for you (or you can do that yourself if so inclined). Then you put the Sony remote in a drawer as a spare.

If you want "whole house control" you'd be looking at a Crestron system, or something like what DavL develops. Those, of course, are considerably more costly and require extensive modifications for sensors, wiring, programming, etc.

Not for the "faint of wallet" unless you are extremely handy and technically savvy.
