UPDATE to What keeps tripping breaker

Here is an update to the what keeps tripping breaker thread.......I have a bad inverter. I spent an hour on the phone with MagnumEnergy tech support (who was great) and after doing multipple tests and a soft restart of the inverter they determined it was having issues. They then put me in touch with the closest service center who then went through all of what Magnum had me do, except we didn't duplicate, on did a verbal walk through and he agreed the inverter is bad. He said he could bench test it and we could then determine if it is rebuildable or cheaper to buy a new one......OUCH as those things aint cheap. Now also depending on how long it has been bad will have a direct effect to battery condition. So while the inverter is out I will unhook all the batteries and do load tests on them all. This might be an expensive next couple of weeks.

It really sux cause we just traded in a perfect coach for this one. I am talking with the dealer trying to get them to at least help with repairs, but have gotten no up or down from them as that is the owners call and apparently he is gone on a cruise. We shall see..

Thanks to all who helped,

At least you now know. Still sucks, though.

Is it a inverter /converter?
Is the converter portion of it putting out the charging voltage for batteries you may not have a problem with the batteries. The Bird System monitors the charge of all your batteries.

You said "We just traded".. If you mean that you JUST!! traded,, Your rights may vary from state to state.

Primarlly if you have reason to believe the inverter was bad pre-trade, and that information was not disclosed, you should seek professional advice.

If, on the other hand it went bad AFTER you completed the trade.. You are likely on your own.

007, yes the converter is working as is the inverter. But it is not converting correctly, I don't understand exactly what the tech was looking for when we were testing, but basically the converter would not ramp up when needed and is not charging beyond about 13v. it goes from bulk to absorb, then back to bulk and so forth. The final test he had me do was to change the VAC dropout to 100, as soon as I did that the system faulted, said low voltage and the did a restart. As soon as it did that twice he said I had a problem. Also reading amps while charging at 100% he said there were issues.

wa8xym, Yes we just bought this coach the day after Thanksgiving. There really is no way to know how long the system has been in trouble. After talking to bith tech guys they said that unless someone was doing just like I am and really watching they probably would not know there was an issue, especially if it was plugged into 50amp service. I would not have realized I had an issue had I not been tripping breakers here at the house. The coach had a two month, 2000 mile warranty, but that was for chasis. I am hoping they will at least help out on the repairs. i don't want to pay anything, truth be known, but I would be happy if they would split costs as I don't think there is anyway to know if the issue was there before we bought or not. My gut tells me it was, but I also doubt they knew it. We'll see how it all works out I guess.
