Using Park Cable

Today is my first attempt at using park cable. 2015 Newmar Ventana 4369. I do not have a satellite service and have been dependent on the over the air antenna which had worked fine until I arrived here in Wyoming where there are no large towns within range. I hooked the outside coax to a connection in the power bay and changed my tv to cable and performed a search. It came up with zero channels available. I also checked the front and bedroom tv's with the same results. Is there another outside connection point that must be made to utilize the park cable which advertises multiple channels available? In the overhead compartment above the driver's seat there are three open cable connectors that I assume some are from the satellite box the previous owner had. Do they need to be linked together?

Not sure on yours but I have a Wineguard TV antenna channel finder that must be turned off before the TV can find channels.

This sounds like one of the coax is the feed from outside and isn't connected .

There should have been a BOMB ( Box Of Many Buttons ) where you could select the input to the TV .

Do you have an ohm meter and an extension cord long enough to reach from the cable bay to the dash .

Some cable systems use a digital signal and your TV needs a QAM tuner.

Check your TV specs to see if they have it, my 2017 TVs don't.

If not, they sell a set top receiver for it.

Did you ask the office if the cable TV is working?

No box of many buttons that I can see. Not sure how tv's know if they are being fed by cable or antenna other than when I change the internal settings.

Using Park cable can be tricky. However there should be Two places where you need to switch from your over the air antenna over to the cable input as your TV source that is fed to all your TVs. The first place is a switch, usually located in an overhead compartment that is just a tiny push button with a light that just says Cable/TV. This switch determines whether the tv will get its signal from your over the air antenna or from the screw-on F-connector that you should have connected to the park's cable connection.
The second place is on the TV. It should have a setting for “Input” or “Source” and this setting should be changed to “Antenna” or “Broadcast” or something similar but it should NOT be HDMI or Video. Lastly, you should tell the TV to “Scan for channels”. If you have the option to have to choose over the air vs cable just choose cable first and scan. If that doesn’t give you a reasonably number of channels then switch to over the air and rescan. Then pick which one you are happiest with and scan once more for whichever you like.
That’s unfortunately overly complicated and the newest TVs can scan for cable and over the air automatically but older sets have to be told. Broadcast tv over the air uses a different type of modulation than cable systems do.
Or you could just ask the park or your neighbors how to do it.

Look at the wall next to the passenger seat near the floor.... there may be a switch/panel ( the size of a normal outlet box) . It will have 2 positions - Antenna and Park Cable. Put it on Park Cable. ON your tv's, select INPUT as cable and select auto program.
If that doesn't work, you may have an issue with internal coax connections. Newmar is very sloppy in how they connect the coax for cable. You may have to trace the cable from the input box.. which should run directly to the afore mentioned switch by the passenger seat. From there it usually goes to a 4 way splitter.... location my be under the sink or maybe in the pegboard bay. Check those connections. Good Luck

Did you find your Wineguard OTA controls? I am curious because it requires three coax cables connected to the back of the unit. Mine is in the cabinet above the driver seat.

I had a problem with cable reception at a camp ground - was only getting half the channels. Based on the suggestion from the tech at the campsite I checked all the connections behind the Winguard control box (the one that spins around and searched for OTA channels). Sure enough all three were loose and that fixed my problem.

Today I picked up a barrel connector that allowed me to tie two of the three coax cables above the drivers seat together and I now have 30 analog cable channels showing up, but zero digital. Sounds like I may need the QAM digital tuner to get them?

have you tied running a coax directly from the pedestal to the tv input port? then run your scan on the tv and see what you have. this will at least tell you what is on the park cable.

Do you have one of these? Possibly behind the passenger seat?

If so you need to push that tiny black button until the green light goes OUT. It is an amplifier for the antenna, and needs to be off for cable…. Turn it back on for antenna usage.
