Vent Microwave to Outside

One of the specials we ordered on our new Mountain Aire was to vent the microwave to the outside. This really helps with cooking food smells and excess heat. We had it on our previous coaches and really like it. I noticed they changed the outside wall vent cover this year and it did not seem to allow much air to get exhausted out. From looking up at it from the bottom it did not seem to be opening the flap when the fan was turned on. I wrote to the manufacturer of the vent cover and asked for a shop drawing of the unit and now I see the reason. It has a "damper lock" and I had never released it ... and boy does that make a difference. Just posting this in case others out there might have this style of vent cover. Here is a picture of what the cover looks like and the shop drawing showing the damper lock.

Yes, you also need a ladder as I haven’t found a way to unlock from the ground. It’s nice to be able to lock it while driving though.

Stove vent

No rattling noises when the outside vent tabs are in the travel position. Unlock the vent when using/cooking.

When we ordered our DS, I wish I had known that a vent was not included and I would have ordered one. Our prior coaches had vents as standard.. I just figured Newmar would have done the same and not charge extra for a basic feature like that.

Cannot reach my vent without a laddar so added a strong rare earth coin type magnet to the flap and a washer inside. It stays closed until the fan blows it open.

My rv vented inside when we got it. I changed it to vent outside after about a year.

This was in the PDF file... Is that you? Sneaky.

Also, this is not the same as what was installed on my Bay Star, although I do like this one better. The one I got was https://www.amazon.com/CampN-RV-Exha...07LC36CQ3?th=1 and looks like I'll need to replace it from falling apart sooner rather than later. talked to someone camping next to me who had to replace theirs a couple times already, so I'll be upgrading to this vent on my next pass. Same mounting port size, so the upgrade should be "easy".

redbaron73 ... Yes, not the best design for this high location. I think I’m gonna try and just leave it open and see if it chatters or flaps from the wind when we’re driving. If it does I’ll have to come up with a better way of dealing with it. Maybe some kind of stick to reach it from the ground. So will just need to see how to use it the best. Other folks are reporting not much wind noise.

I had the same installed as a special. I was never told about a vent lock. I will have to get the ladder out and take a closer look.

Wish they installed the locking vents on 2021. Ours rattles will driving. We hear “ping ping ping” while going down the road. Not sure how to correct. I don’t want to pull cover off and break the paint seal. My thought is to pull oven out and place a piece of felt to deadened the flap when it hits…. I think?

So you have to get a ladder to lock and unlock the vent tabs from the outside every time you travel?

Very simple mod.

Cannot reach my vent without a ladder so added a strong rare earth coin type magnet to the flap and a washer inside. It stays closed until the fan blows it open. The lock tabs are left open.
