Ventana cord reel clicking after fully retracted

Hi all,
When retracting the 50 amp cord on the power cord reel (2014 Ventana), I release the switch when the cord is fully retracted, at which time the reel starts making a loud clicking noise (maybe 3 clicks per second). This used to last about 10 seconds then stop, but now it's more like 30 seconds before it stops. A gentle tug on the cable changes the speed of the clicks from a fast click to a slower click but doesn't affect the duration.

Just a guess, but is the cord reel attempting to take up any slack after the switch is released and a sensor is not properly detecting when the cord is fully retracted? I tried fully unwinding the cord (not plugged in), then retracting it, and always try to make sure the cord is wound evenly across the reel, but the issue persists.
I'm not having any power problems, and the cord reel is otherwise working fine, it's just this clicking issue.
Any thoughts?

Mine stops immediately when I release the switch. It doesn't continue taking in any slack. Mine does make that clicking noise if the cord jams when the motor is running. That is the clutch slipping as designed. Sounds as if you may have a faulty switch that is not turning off the motor when you release it.

I had the same issue on my 14 Ventana. I'd just pull the cord out a bit, retract, and repeat until it stopped. My guess is there is some kind of faulty sensor that is supposed to stop the reel from winding when fully retracted but it never seemed to last long enough to worry me.

Sounds like a bad retraction switch. The clicking is the motor not over torquing the reel. If it didnít have this feature you would damage the motor and reel. Mechanism is similar to that used in a torque wrench. The switch is not releasing the power contacts when you release the toggle switch. It is sticking closed until the contacts finally separate under pressure. Would look into replacing the switch.

A belated thanks for all of your input. I'm pretty sure that the cord stops immediately if I release the switch prior to the cord being fully retracted, but I'll test that to verify. I'll take a close look at the switch to see if it can be cleaned, and if that doesn't work then replace it.
Thanks again,
