Ventana LE with 360HP in Colorado

My 2016 VTLE has the 360HP Cummins. My question is when we go to Colorado next summer for a couple of weeks (Boulder/Colorado Springs area), will the HP be limiting my ability to climb mountain passes with a toad? I haven't picked out the toad yet, but what I buy may be a consideration based on feedback.

Thanks.

No problem...

AFAIK, CO. 550 from Durango to Montrose has some of the steepest grades in Colorado, so no, no problem. We towed a Wrangler with our 8.1 Workhorse gasser in a 37' HR. the entire time.

I'll be cutting through the Rockies on I70 from KC all the way to Zion and I guarantee I'll be crawling right there with you. One can also unhook and have DW drive the toad if that makes you more comfortable. Regardless my first rig (95 Bounder 5.9L 230 HP) handled it just fine.

My 05 with 100K miles and a ISC 330 with 950 ft lbs of torque Cummins moving about 37K requires patience on some of the long grades. However I am going faster than some of the trucks. Usually stay in the truck lane and admire the scenery.

I don't mind going slow, just not backwards. [emoji3]

I figure patience and following a TT will set my expectation properly.

We just did I70 west to east, and I 25 south thru Albuquerque towing 2dr Wrangler ( 3800 lbs ). We have 400hp vs. your 360, but I think our Ventana 4037 weighs a little more as well. Slowest we got down to was 40 mph uphill approaching Eisenhower tunnel, after having to slow at bottom of grade for construction. As long as you can maintain momentum / get around slow trucks, you will do OK. When your speed drops just put on your 4 way flashers and enjoy the scenery.

We have a Ventana LE 4044 towing a 2014 CRV climbs mountains OK just not as fast as we might like. Just follow the trucks and enjoy the view.

You should be fine.If you like physics, pay attention to your rv weight plus your toad weight....don't exceed 1 hp. Per 100 lbs.

So 36,000 lbs is my theoretical limit including the toad? I have never heard that ratio. Thank you.

We made a 3900 mi. trip this summer through the mountains in Montana, Idaho, Utah and Colorado. Our 4333 with same engine was towing a 2009 ford edge, four down. We did slow to about 40 mph on some of the steeper grades, but had no problem making the climbs. We climbed up to Eisenhower tunnel from the west and slowed to between 35 and 40 mph. This is around an 8 mile climb to the summit. We also drove up to Loveland, CO. from Denver and then down to Colorado Springs. As mentioned by another, get in the right lane, put on your four way flashers and enjoy the scenery.
If you haven't already selected your park in Colorado Springs, I suggest Garden of the Gods RV Park. We were there for a week and really enjoyed.

I have a 40 Damon Astoria and tow a 1/2 ton Chevy crew cab total weight about 39k. I have the Cummins 360 ISB and pull the mountains just fine. As mentioned in other posts I'm down to 35-40 on the steep and long grades. Just watch your engine temp going up if it starts to get hot downshift. So that you can have more RPMs to cool it down. Good luck safe travels.

I had not thought about that. Thanks for pointing it out for me.
