Ventana pulling power

Hello, I am considering buying a 2013 Ventana 36' with the 360 ISB, but concerned about the pulling power(I tow a Jeep Rubicon) I was also considering a Phaeton 36GH w/ 380 ISC. The 380ISC w/ 1050 torque is very enticing. Just trying to sort through all the fog. I currently have a 2007 fleetwood expedition 34h diesel.w/ CAT 300 C7.
Big purchase ,trying to do more homework the second time around. I would appreciate any opinions or experiences good-bad- or indifferent. Thanks

Welcome Kennyb to the forum & irv2.
Here is a Brochure and Owners Guide for 2013 Ventana.
Can't answer the pulling power but with a 36' coach would not think you would have a problem in western mountains.
I'am sure someone will have direct answer for you.
Good luck in your quest.

We pull a 2006 Jeep Cherokee with a 38' DSDP, 300hp Cummins ISC with no problems. I'm not familiar with the ISB, but unless it has less torque than the ISC, I would think that the 360hp should work fine.

I had a 2006 Ventana 39.5' with a Cat 330 HP. I pulled a full size Dodge RAM 1500 pick up behind it thru the mountains and didn't even know it was back there.

You should be fine IMO...

I have the 2013 Ventana 34' with the 360 HP and it pulls a Honda CRV easily, but you are actually comparing 2 different engines. The 6.7 ISB is 360 HP & 800 lbs. torque while the 8.3 ISC is 380 HP & 1050 lbs. torque. IF the GVWR is equal on the Tiffin vs. Newmar, the 8.3 would be more power.

I had a 2008 FW Discovery 40FT MH with the 350HP ISB. Loaded with DW, 4 Kids and towing a 3/4 Crew Cab Silverado. Never had a problem, but came really close in Wyoming:

Hwy 14 between Lovell (Pryor mountain wild mustang range) and Hwy 90 in Sheridan, Wy is a beautiful road, but at times it exceeds 10% grade. I had not cleaned the radiator, and was over heating several times on the long switchbacks. This was the first and only time I had to disconnect the toad, dump the "FRESH WATER" and give it a go. That night I cleaned the radiator, and doing the road in reverse was no problem. Just slow. Use your pull outs, and don't be in a hurry.

Also another thing about either engine, the only have a very minor exhaust brake, not a true jake brake. So you have to watch your speeds coming down the other side very close.

THe nice thing about the ISB is I got 11+ with my full load if I kept it at 55.

Hey RedBaron73!

You got 11+!! Wow. I never got anything close to that with the CAT. What are you seeing for mileage with the new Star?

The few trips I have done have been high speed towing (70-75 mph). I average 6.8.

We leave for our summer trip in a few weeks and will have a much slower pace, so I will see what I can squeeze out of it.

Best discription I've seen here in the forums is .
You want at least 1 HP per 100 lbs of GCVW
With torque 3X that of HP and the torque and HP peaks within 1000 RPM of each other .
Example Rolling weight 30,000 LBS, you want at least , 300 HP and 900 ft.lbs torque. Peak torque 1400 RPM, Peak HP 2400 RPM. This should satisfy most MH , owners.

MH weighs about 32,000, towing Honda Odyssey on a dolly. Have 435 HP and 1200 ft lbs. now. OK, but still want MORE!!
