Our defrost vent is cracked in two places.
Unfortunately we didn't notice the cracks when we bought the 2007 Allstar off the lot. It is clear that the defrost vent cracks when it shrinks in the cold. Plastic has a high coefficient of expansion metal and wood do not. In the sun or if the defrost heat is on the crack closes
.
The RV mechanic that ordered the parts says the Ventana and the Allstar vents always crack. He says if I replace the vent it will probably crack again. He also says it's a major job to replace the vent. Newmar's response is to ignore my concern and simply replace the vent. How many vents will they replace? I am thinking of taking the new plastic defrost vent home and storing it in a dark dry place and then installing it just before I sell the Allstar. I would be guilty of passing the "faulty part legacy" on to the next owner, just like Newmar. What should I do? Maybe I should always park facing the sun as the cracks completly close in the heat.
