Our defrost vent is cracked in two places. Unfortunately we didn't notice the cracks when we bought the 2007 Allstar off the lot. It is clear that the defrost vent cracks when it shrinks in the cold. Plastic has a high coefficient of expansion metal and wood do not. In the sun or if the defrost heat is on the crack closes . The RV mechanic that ordered the parts says the Ventana and the Allstar vents always crack. He says if I replace the vent it will probably crack again. He also says it's a major job to replace the vent. Newmar's response is to ignore my concern and simply replace the vent. How many vents will they replace? I am thinking of taking the new plastic defrost vent home and storing it in a dark dry place and then installing it just before I sell the Allstar. I would be guilty of passing the "faulty part legacy" on to the next owner, just like Newmar. What should I do? Maybe I should always park facing the sun as the cracks completly close in the heat.

Bob,
Have you tried talking to a manager at Newmar? Maybe there was a bad batch of parts.

Gary, I have discussed my concern with one of Newmar's managers and I got a polite letter assuring me that Newmar stands ready to assist me with all my warranty concerns. Unfortunately replacing a faulty part with another faulty part was not addressed in the letter. I'm sure they have the greatest faith in their replacement parts but in this case I don't. If they had suggested in the letter that they had improved the part then I would be a more willing participant in its replacement. I don't relish the thought of having my dash torn apart without some sort of guarantee not just more warranty. This is why I asked the forum for some help with my decision. I was hoping someone might have had a positive experience with this particular problem or a similar problem where Newmar has improved this part or has continued to replace similar faulty parts post warranty. I am also worried that the part may not be available into the future, as I understand Newmar has redesigned the dash and end caps of it's 2008 Allstars and Ventanas (one piece windshield). If you have any ideas please let me know. Thanks
