Water Pump

I have a 2018 Dutch Star 4018. The water pump is working fine. I have two questions. #1. How long do these pumps typically last. #2. How many of you guys carry a spare pump, just in case.
Thanks in advance.

I had the same pump in my 2002 Dutch Star which we recently sold. Our 2015 Dutch Star has the same pump that came with it. I never thought about carrying a spare but I'm sure it depends on how often you use it.

I take it you are taking about the domestic water pump they last a long time unless you are dry camping all the time and Newmar uses the best. We have a 2003 and I have replaced it with a Aquajet 5.5 gal pump and that was 9 years ago and we dry camp a lot but yes I do carry a spare but I carry a lot of spare parts, makes my wife happy and I work on them.

I carry one, If you dry camp a lot then you should carry a spare. There not that expensive. Oh by the way once you buy a spare water pump, your current one will last forever

Newmar uses the same as everyone else.

OP- Don't worry about the pump, you will have lots of other things that will fail eventually, so just go with it.

I’ve had 2 of the Shurflo pumps fail in the first 2 years. Covered under warranty. I have swapped out my water pump for a Remco Aquajet 5.3 gpm variable speed pump. I still have the original pump mounted on the side wall of the wet bay as a spare.

On all three of my diesel pushers, I've changed out the pump for a variable speed model (Flowjet VSP). Since my 2019 pump is mounted on the side wall, I mounted the new pump on the floor and left the OEM in place. I can switch back in a few minutes if the Flowjet were to fail.

My Shurflo failed just a few weeks ago, at 6 yr old. It is worth noting that it was not a total failure. A modicum of troubleshooting brought me to know that the pressure switch on my pump was the failure point. $12 at Amazon, a few days later I installed it. (10 min). We were in an RV Park at the time, so no rush.
You can do a lot of discrete part replacement on these pumps— at least on Shurflo— and my experience has taught me it’s rarely a full failure, and it’s rarely the motor, either.

They typically are not prone to early failure but like everything else you never know. I carry a spare.

Thanks for your input guys. We do a fair amount of boondocking. I'll be getting a spare pump ASAP.

I replaced the lame 2.8gpm original with a 4gpm 55psi VSP pump. I did keep the original, since it still worked fine, for a spare.
