Water pump doesn't turn off
Other than a potential water leak, has anyone had their water pump run continuously even when no water is being used?
This used to happen for a short time if we hadn't used the pump for a while. But after a few off, and on, the pump seemed to work the way it was supposed to.
We mostly use campground water hookups, so this is only a problem when traveling or an overnight stay.
The pump works fine and runs the water as needed, but this trip the pump is not stopping without manually turning it off.
Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.

If not any external leak, the CHECK-VALVEINTERNAL to pump is going bad, which will also allow FW tank overflow/ overfill when connected to city water. Check brand/ model ## of pump to see if rebuild kit available at what price? (Easy DIY) Then decide if rebuild or new pump?

If it is a bypass pump like a Shurflo 4008, the bypass pressure may not be set quite high enough thereby not allowing the pump to reach the shutoff pressure setting. You could do a test by just slightly increasing the bypass pressure to see how the pump reacts.

The pump will run continuously if the city water valve is in the wrong position.

Makes sense. But, no, we don't have city water hooked up when using the water pump. Only working off the fresh water tank.
The strange thing is that it is random. Sometime it works exactly the way it's supposed to and sometimes it won't turn off unless we manually turn it off.

Make sure the outside shower hose faucets are turned off. I have heard of them bypassing and causing what you describe.

You should be able to adjust the pressure switch on the pump using an Allen key. With the pump running, slowly turn it either direction until it turns off.

Go to Pentair on line(they make this shureflow pump) and look at the manual. There are two most likely possible issues: 1. Pressure shut off needs adjusting or 2. the bypass pressure needs adjusting or a combination of both. Mine did the same thing and I only adjusted the pressure switch but now I need to go back and look at the bypass pressure as well because mine will cycle on and off during low flow and the 4008 pump is not supposed to do that. This all assumes you have no leaks, air in the system, and all valves such as tank fill valve, shower diverter valve, and winterization valves are all in their correct positions.

Ours started doing what you described. Only fix I found that worked was to replace the pump.
I suspect hard water deposits were making the pump malfunction so now we always use a water softener.

Mine recently did the same thing, made small adjustments 1/4 turns and would wait, that didn't fix it. Bought a new pressure switch from amazon $25.00. On the 4048 shuflo the pressure switch is a stand alone part that attaches to the bottom of the pump

We did have this. There was a crack in one of the outside shower faucets so we had a slow leak. We thought we were going to be good after replacing that, and it worked right for a short time. Now it's running continuously again until we manually shut it off.
We thought it might be from sitting too long between uses.

We have a water softener now - ever since we spent time in Carlsbad. Amazing hard water!
I'm wondering if these pumps have a relatively short life expectancy? (We do have a spare in case it quits entirely.)

Sounds like maybe some more fine tuning? - Thank you for the suggestions!
