After a few trips through Arizona and New Mexico it is a must have item. I elected to purchase the Mark8000 and it general lasts 2-4 weeks between salt treatments. If you buy one make sure that you get the test strips available on Amazon. That way you will know when to refresh the unit.

A Mark 10,000 obviously provides more capacity but it was heavier and a bit more awkward to set up when I am on the road so I selected the next smaller size.

Also if you are going to be long term at one location Culligan often rents the larger units by the month and provides you with a fresh unit each month if required.

Mark 8000

Lots of good threads on this subject. Just Google RV water softeners and you will find plenty of info on iRV2.

There are several good portable watersofteners out there. "On the go" and the "Watts RV Pro" are just two that work very similar.
I have the On The Go and it works very well. Like some of the others it uses a one pound box of table salt, $0.57 generic, and I recharge about once a month depending on the incoming hardness.
Helps with washing the coach as well.

Hello - another vote for the On-the-Go. It is a 8000grain unit and uses a 1 pound box of table salt. I find that I need to recharge once a week in Yuma.

Geez. You don't drink the water in Yuma. You have to chew it....

They are all pretty much the same, just shaped a little bit different.

We have an On The Go.

One more thing.....not sure if anyone covered this....you will need some test strips to monitor the performance and know when to recharge your softener.
