WeatherPro Main Awning Failing

I have read the available postings. I have determined that I do not have any rain or wind sensors on my unit. The awning has been coming in and out in 3 foot spurts for the last couple of months. Now, it only extends about 24 inches and sticks. It will only move about 6 inches in or out past that point and stops. It does the same from the main box or with the remote. I can hear a switch clicking, but no movement. Any ideas short of replacing it?

Hi LewTippett,
Good thing you started your post claiming there is no rain or wind sensor. The complaint you have does indicate a failure of one or both these mechanisms. Consider:
1. the motor being a culprit
2. the mechanical joints can also cause this. Spray all the joints with WD-40.
3. if the awning is out of alignment the awning will have difficulty moving.

The awning motor barely has enough power to move the awning. Any of the above mentioned items can easily cause the motor to stop. It will take about a minute for it to reset and continue to move.

If it is moving of its' own accord, short of being haunted, you do have an auto retract system/rain sensor circuit being activated.

Oops, there is a wind sensor. It was apparently disabled by the previous owner because there was an issue. It now beeps when I enable it signifying an issue. However, since it is still not working with the sensor disabled, I am presuming that I have a motor issue AND a wind sensor issue. Are the parts available from Dometic?

Hi LewTippett,
The parts can be gotten from Newmar. Not sure about elsewhere. Mine has broken several times and has stayed broken for years. The design is poor. If you fix it, it will continue to break. You may need to replace the roof sensor and control board. If disabled, the problem is with the motor and/or the mechanical joints that need lubricating.
