What are these things on my storage tanks?
2002 Mountainaire Freightliner. I pulled the panel hiding my water tanks. I found these components in the wiring harness. The two little boxes appear to have been attached to the sides of their respective tanks. I suspect that they are the water level indicator sensors, but I'm asking here to be sure. If they are, and if they should be attached to their tank, what do I use to reattach them?
Also, this bit of wiring harness looks like it's for some optional accessory. It dangles between two tanks and is not connected to anything that I can see. Can someone tell me what it's for?

Aftermarket tank 'heater pads'
Center 'block' would be thermostat that turns DC On/Off to pads based on temps (Typically ON at 40*F and OFF at 60*F)
Should be connected to an On/Off Control-Switch
Control-switch off if tanks empty
*Heater pads should be placed on bottom of tank!

Old-Biscuit is probably right, but it could also just be wire splices. Open up the harness and look for labels printed on the wires that give a clue on what they are. Every few feet should be another label.
And yes, the foil on the sides of the tanks are the level sensor pads.

Doubt the foil is level sensors
Single wire to middle of each 'pad' in same area of tank

I have this picture of " behind the pegboard " of a Newmar coach but not sure what year . I thought I had a photo of my tank level sensors after I repaired them but I can't find it
The plumbing modifications shown are the members to reduce fresh water loss due to overflow while driving.
The tank heat pads are 120 volt in our vintage coaches and those are the level sensors , with 12 volt wiring , at least my sensor display started working properly after I re-taped mine.
Newmar has used the ped board to hide a MULTITUDE of wiring connections , so unless you have a system that's not working , I wouldn't worry about any excess wires you find there ; or behind the dash .
I believe that between Newmar and Freightliner , there is enough extra wire ; in my coach; to make the harnesses for a couple of Honda Civics .

So I should be able to reattach those blocks with whatever's handy? I was worried that they might be the sensors and needed some special adhesive . . . .

Looks like some simple double sided tape to hold the little box in place to reduce pressure on the wires. Add a few dabs of silicon sealer around the edges along with fresh double sided tape. That should hold it as long as needed.

Agree except you frequently need to decide which answer is correct!
I wish the site had a feature that automatically scored answers... negative for bad/wrong answers and positive for good/ correct. Then posters could view a respondents score when trying to decide which of 3-4 answers to follow.
Dbl sided tape will work for awhile but as you can see may come loose.
I would try some other adhesive rather than silicone... maybe liquid nails?
Silicone is everyone's first thought but it isn't a great adhesive and when it comes loose NOTHING will stick to the spot, even more silicone, without removing all silicone mechanically (sanding)`or chemically.
JB Weld makes a 2 part epoxy meant for plastic and might be a good choice. I just used some to repair a fridge plastic part... so far so good.
