What do model numbers mean? IE 3797

I've found a 2000 Mountain Aire that has been sitting for 2 years. Well cared for before husbands passing. Now sitting outside at a storage area. I've owned several RVs (5th wheels, class c and A) but not a Newmar. I've got some questions.
1. Is there something I should be looking for after sitting for an extended period.
2. What is the difference between a 3797 and 3778 etc. I understand the 37 is length.
3. How can I find out if the recalls have been completed.
4. Was there any problems on the 2000 model year.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi jemccab,
There are no chronic problems with the 2000 Newmar Mountain Aire's. The second 2 digits of the model number is the floor plan. One can go to http://www.newmarcorp.com/wp-content...brochure-2.pdf and look at the brochure. Can't find model 3778. 3797is the longest gas powered MACA made by Newmar that year. To determine if any recalls are outstanding, you will need the VIN and contact Ford for chassis recalls. Contact Newmar with the coach number or vin for the recall information on the coach. Don't know how to tell you if the recall was actually done. An authorized tech can do that.

Now comes the hard part. Lack of use not abuse kills a coach. To do it right you'll need a RVIA certified tech for the coach and an ASE certified tech for the chassis. Probably cost $1K for both to do their inspection. Based on sitting for a couple of years, there will be a long list of things to do.
