There are lots of different things that hold the door open. Depends on the coach and years. The ones that have the hinged flat bar on the top the door that holds it open when it is opened at about 90 degrees has a split ring that holds it open with friction, when that split ring breaks it no longer holds the door. You also can not find a replacement short of buying the hinged flat bar. Last I knew Newmar would sell you a replacement for $200. The cheap fix is to put a zip tie in the grove where the split ring used to be. Need to know what coach you have before you will get a "good" answer.

Dont know how to post a picture but here's a link to the one I bought from Camping World before I realized Newmar parts has them: 3 1/2 Inch Plastic T Entry Door Holder - White - RV Designer E231 - Entry Door Hardware - Camping World

This clip does not include the standoff tube to keep the door from slamming open and hitting the paint, but Newmar parts has them. We have a mid-ship door, not a front door like diesel pushers so if your door wont open back against the coach like ours does these may not work.

Let me know if you need to know how to reach the Newmar parts guy.

Here is the URL for the PTL Engineering Posi-lock parts. They offer almost any door part you might need.

The newer coaches no longer have the pos a loc, they are held open with friction and do not require using the handle to release (at least our 2008 does). One good thing about it is some one not familiar with door operation can no longer force and break the door.

What do you use to hold door open

I have a length of rope with two "S" hooks. One end on the mirror shaft, the other on the inside door handle. Lenght is just enough to hold door open, but just enough slak to remove. Easy and cheap.

On my 2004 Dutch Star the weld on the rod at the top of the door has broken away from the rod that goes to the lock that holds the door open. The door will have to be taken apart to access the rod to remove it to reweld it. Becuse of that I just bungy the door to the mirror to hold it open.

The zip tie worked on our 2012 DS.

Simple, cheap fix that works

Each of my last 3 coaches had the same problem - door would not stay open because the OEM mechanism failed. On 2 coaches (slow learner) I replaced the top locking door check only to find that it was a waste of money. An issue for me was to find a solution that kept the door open, but would "fail" before the door keep or the door hinge failed if a strong wind hit the door. This is my solution that is working VERY well.
I used a 9' piece of aluminum sheeting (I used step flashing) and bent it into a "C" profile. The dimensions that worked are as follows: 1 5/8" on top, 5/8" on sides and 5/16" "wings on the open side. I simple clip it over the door check (the "hinge" at the top of the door) when it is open. It VERY easily goes on and off, and the 5/16" turns on the open side keep it in place. After trying it for a while, I painted it with a black plastic spray.

Thanks for your solution. I will look at making one of those for our coach. Been using the zip tie suggested Above but looking at your solution I like it.

On our 2014 Ventana 4036 we use a boot lace tied in a loop. The loop is on the inside door handle, hooked to the loop is a bungee wrapped around the exterior mirror base. Simple and when not in use is within reach next to the passenger chair.
