What is this switch?

2005 MADP 4304, in the overhead control panel there is a switch marked LP. It is right next to the step switch. What does the LP switch do? I am not sure what it would control.

Thanks,

That would be the LP gas detector, you can shut it off to reduce battery drain while in storage. should be on when coach is occupied.

Most LP switches are wired from your chassis engine starter batteries and fused near them.

LP gas detectors are at floor level (LP gas is heavier than air). As others stated, it should be a shut off for LP flow.

The LP detector is at floor level, on my Dutch Star the switch for the detector is in the overhead compartment above the passengers head

Some LP detectors do not shut off LP gas flow in different motor homes just gives a warning alarm.

That's all ours does in our 2002 DSDP.

Thanks,
As others have stated, it shuts off power to the lp detector and saves on battery drain when in storage. Flip it to off and you will notice the light on the lp detector goes off. Turn it on and the light flashes red for several seconds while it stabilizes before turning solid green.

Does the same in our 2003 KSDP. Turns off the alarm only. For storage use only. Leave it on if using coach..

Remember that these LP detectors have a useful life of maximum seven years according to Atwood. If you buy a replacement off the internet, e.g. eBay, make sure you know the manufacture date. If it has an older date, it is still considered new, as the clock starts once the unit is installed. I verified this with Atwood tech support.

This somehow does not seem to be something that is safe to do. That I know of, I have no way, other than disconnecting batteries to turn off the LP alarm, which also turns off the LP gas flow. If this switch, or the loss of the LP alarm, shuts off the LP flow solenoid, it may be a permissible thing to do. I would make sure when turning off the LP switch.

The LP Detectors in Newmar coaches are alarms have no solenoids to cut off LP gas supply.
Have never had problems with this setup in any Newmar coach.
