What's an additional 2K in the chassis do for me?
Just learned that I could get a 26K chassis with the Bay Star 3401 (24K standard). Haven't bounced that off any dealers yet....
Anyone care to give me a ballpark figure on how much that adds to the cost? And what do I really get from it? Some suspension improvements in the rear (from what I read here) and some more cargo carrying capacity gains?

I would do that in a heartbeat. 2k of extra carrying capacity on a class A gasser is huge...

Allows you to carry more stuff (weight) and not exceed the capacity of the chassis is the biggest advantage. I would for sure do it for $2k if it were me

Not sure what the cost is. The 2K refers to moving up from the standard Bay Star 3401 24K chassis to a 26K.

Well that is nice to hear
To the OP you gain more carrying capacity but you loose towing capacity. In other words, the 24k chassis lets you tow 5000lbs and the 26k chassis only 4000lbs......24 plus 5 or 26 plus 4.
Now, the hitch is rated at 5000 for both chassis but the gross vehicle weight is different.
Theoretically, if you load your 26k chassis so it weighs only 25k you can still then tow up to the 5000lbs which when combined will equal the 26 plus 4.
Issue is on the 24k......24k and that is it..... no more carrying anything even if you tow is only 2000lbs.
BYW...The 3401 is an awesome coach Perhaps we will compare notes someday.

Based on my reading of this forum and other articles, the most valuable thing you could do to a 34 ft MH on an F53 chassis is lengthen the wheelbase. Will moving from the 24k to the 26k give you any additional wheelbase?

I would think that is dependent on the floorplan, not the GVWR. For example, the four 34'11" model Bay Stars (standard 24K GVWR) have wheelbases of 224", 228" (2 have this), and 234".
I think moving up to 26K GVWR (based on another post) is just the addition of some springs in the back?

Yup....additional leaf springs I believe in the rear.
The wheel base on the 24k chassis for the Bay Star 3401 and the 26k is the same 228.
It does depend what model you are looking at because the wheel base can vary.
Wheel base can generally effect the ride and turning of the coach.
Still going through the specials at this point hope to finalize them at the Hershey show

No the wheelbase is dictated by the House dimensions.

Besides somewhere in the neighborhood of 2000 lbs of extra carrying capacity (OCCC), you'll likely get a bit stiffer ride. But that's not a bad thing in a gasser. Less sway and jouncing...probably. You might get bigger brakes and tires with more weight capacity but not sure.
You'll lose 2000 lbs of capacity between GVWR and GCWR. You're effective towing capacity will be 4000 lbs, limited by that difference instead of the hitch rating. But you can borrow from the GVWR to make up 1000 lbs and get back to your full 5000 lbs of towing capacity. So if you have a heavy toad, you won't be able to use all of your additional OCCC.
We upgraded our Bay Star from 22k to 24k but that boosted our GVWR/GCWR difference from 4000 lbs to 6000 lbs, a plus for that chassis upgrade. If you're full time, do it and deal with the towing issue if it's a problem. We would have sold our Wrangler Unlimited and bought a 2-door wrangler to deal with the issue but didn't have to. But in your case, you'll likely have the extra OCCC to make it up.
And If I remember correctly, out dealer gave us the option at his cost of $2300.
