What's the little red light?

On my Ventana LE with 340 ISB I have seen a little red light showing up just above and behind the pivot point of the tach needle. I cannot find any reference to such a light anywhere in the manuals. It is almost covered by the needle when running about 1750 rpm. Is this light showing a regen in progress? It showed itself a couple of times on this past trip of 6500 miles.

Regen cycle is about every 8 hours of engine run time , and there are very specific parameters for the cycle to start; engine temp/ vehicle speed. That info should be in your Cummins manual, the red light may be as an indicator for the cycle so the driver is aware and not disturbed by the drop in power during the cycle.

If your coach is on a Freightliner Chassis, they supply the gauges, and if you call the help line , with your serial number they will gladly answer questions.

SKIP426; So I've put a little over 3000 miles on my unit (8.9ltr ISL) and have never had a sign of a regen in that time. About 80% of my driving has been at 55 or over. Were the Regns done without me knowing it?

The regen icon should look something like this according to the FL manual:
I have not seen mine in nearly 20K miles (mostly highway).

The timing of the cycle would be laid out in the Cummins manual, and if you were running at speed on cruise , the cycle could happen without you noticing. If not on cruise where the ECM is controlling speed you would have to apply more throttle to maintain your speed.

Made me look; I've got one too, and it was lit. So the question remains: What is the little red light?

Well I'm glad I'm not the only one to see this "little red light". I just got off the phone with F/L service line (Jessica) and explained what's going on. Her response, after checking with her engineering guy, was that it must be a reflection of another lamp behind the instrument face and nothing to be concerned about. I'm not totally satisfied with this explanation, so I will carry this issue to my F/L dealer on the 15th when I have an appointment for warranty service. If anyone else sees this light, take a picture and send to F/L customer service. I have no idea what will initiate this "reflected red light" so can't readily duplicate it. Maybe having more folks ask the question will get a better answer.
