This weekend I have to take the wheelcovers off of my front wheels so that I can check the lug nut torque. The dealer put two new tires on the front before I took delivery. I've never taken these covers off before. I know there's supposed to be two nut covers with dimples or little marks on them. Do they twist off - are there wheel-cover nuts under them?

Thanks

Bill, the two covers are the two with dipples on them or, an easy way to determine which ones they are, tap them with your finger. All will sound hollow except the two you need. Once you have located them just unscrew the covers off. If they are tight you can use a wrench with a towel over the nut. When you have them off you will see the lugs. You don't have to touch the lug nuts to remove the disc. With the two cover nuts off the disc will lift off. Hope this helps.

The covers should come with a lug wrench supplied by MFG of covers. It will look like a "T" with a socket that fits the lug nut. Maybe in one of your compartments OR IN YOUR PULL OUT BUMPER FOR YOUR SPARE TIRE. "007"

wfederle;

It is generally easier to pull the caps off prior to trying to remove the nuts that hold the liner on. You can get a lug-nug cover remover from most truck stops for about $5. They look like forceps, just place them over the covers and pull them off. Once you have the caps off remove the nuts and the liner will slip off. While you are there it is a great time to check the oil bath hubs (if equipped).

I got the cover off and checked the torque of the lug nuts. However when I put the cover back on, the two nut covers that are supposed to cover the nuts that hold the wheel cover on don't stay on the nuts. Does someone sell solid versions of those nuts?

If they are metal you can squeeze them just enough so they will fit snug.
When I was cleaning my aluminum wheels my lug nut covers would easily pull off by hand.
They are chrome covered plastic. I put a dab of silicon sealant inside the caps before pushing them on to the lug nuts. This should keep them from falling off, but still be removable.
