Where is my backup beeper?

2021 Ventana 3717

Bought new (ordered it) and no back up alarm since day 1. I thought it just didn’t have one then I read this is an RVIA requirement.

Out of warranty but I would like to take a look at it.

I cannot see it in the engine compartment. I have a rear radiator so that limits the view.

Back up lights work as I read the alarm is wired into that circuit.

Interesting, I've owned three motorhomes and none of them had a backup alarm. All of them were/are RVIA certified.

My ‘22 Ventana 4369 has one but I’ve not looked for it’s location. I’m willing to bet that the 37’ has one so I would look for a blown fuse including a potential in-line fuse on one of the direct wires.

BTW, if you cannot find it, I have an Ecco 850 back up alarm that I wired in my previous Bounder. Took it off when I traded it in. It’s just sitting on one of my work benches so you are welcome to have it if you want it.

I have owned two new motorhomes and none came with backup beepers. You can always install one connected to the rear tail lights. My Ford F350 came with an aftermarket backup beeper but removed it to avoid neighbor complaints from the shrieking sound when backing out of my driveway at 5:45 AM everyday.

The reverse buzzer is only a requirement if you don't have a reverse camera capable of covering any empty space not seen by the mirrors. There's nothing saying you can't add one for yourself, but of the hundreds of RV's I've seen come park, maybe 2 had reverse buzzers.

RVIA's rules and regulations are deliberately hard to get to- they're only manufacturer requirements who must pay them money, not end users who don't represent any financial incentive.

Been camping for 40 years and only recently, a couple years ago, encountered a backup alarm. It was a nice cool early 6:00AM morning, windows open, fresh air, sleeping soundly and then a couple sites over a Super C backed out of his site. I wanted to kill....never mind . Let's say I was pissed.

My 2019 Dutch Star came with one. On the Dutch Star its mounted to a vertical support on the right side, just inside the engine door. See photo....

I changed mine out from the beep type to what I believe is the new requirement, which sounds like a dog barking with a hoarse throat. I believe they changed styles because everyone got use to the beep and ignored it. The new one isn't as obnoxious, but it makes you look.

Thanks for all the comments and offer for the beeper.

This was more of a curiosity pursuit rather than wanting a back up alarm. My 2016 VT had one so I just assumed they all Newmars did.

I have the 360 camera system that has a wide angle rear view you can scroll to while in reverse so maybe that meets the RVIA guidelines someone mentioned.

My rig has the beep-beep alarm, and I don't even "hear" them any more. I work industrial construction, usually mega-projects and while in the field there may be several hundred pieces of mobile equipment on the job. There are times when you get 10 - 20 of these alarms going off at once, I don't even "hear" the beep-beeps because I have learned to tune them out, like the DW (don't tell her). I do hear the new sound, it's obnoxious, but it works.

Have a Safe and Wonderful Day, and many happy travels.

Never had a beeper on a motorhome. I do have them on my work trucks. On my work trucks they are all little black boxes mounted on the frame near the rear. A few years of road salt and I end up replacing them. Very simple to retro fit if you want one.

While some may consider them annoying, I personally think they serve a good purpose. Years back was on a job site with many vendors/contractors everywhere. A guy waking across the site, carrying doughnuts of all things, was hit by a a delivery truck backing up with no beeper. Luckily no injury but the doughnuts took a dove.

In my case, I disconnected the beeper (mostly for etiquette). Behind the Oasis surge line hose right by the beeper unit (that Don's shows in his pic) is the connection ... my pic shows it disconnected. Yours may be disconnected

I installed a switch on the back-up beeper. We like to leave early and just didn't want to have others have to put up with that wake up call.
