The more typical choice is an aftermarket device added prior to the transfer switch, such as the Progressive Industries HW50C, $340 online (plus install).
The integrated unit saves space, but if a power surge blows the protection circuit, would that also disable the transfer switch? And would you have to replace the entire transfer switch to repair the surge protection?
Anyone know how that works?

The 40350-RV is pretty much a black box in the NA. It does not come with an RV Power Monitor instead it is one of the few devices in the NA SliverLeaf system that connects directly to the RV-C bus without an adapter module. I am guessing when errors are thrown by the 40350-RV they would be logged in the SilverLeaf RV-C System Diagnostics page. To date the device has worked without any problems.
As for surge protection here is what the manual says when a surge error is recorded:
Quote:
This indicates that one of the fuses for the surge protectors on the transfer switch control board has blown. This will not affect normal transfer switch operation; however, the fuse on the board must be replaced in order to keep the surge protection capability.
