Whirlpool Washer Problems
Our 2017 Newmar Dutch Star 4369 is four months old. For the past two weeks we have experienced problems with the Whirlpool washer not performing the high-speed spin and drain. Instead it spins slowly and leaves the laundry sopping full of water. Running the Drain/Spin cycle will sometimes work, but most times does not. The problem is intermittent. Sometimes it works normally, other times it doesn't spin and drain.
I removed the lower panel and checked the filter—it was clear. We have turned the breaker on and off cutting the power. And, my wife has run Tide washer cleaner in a cleaning cycle. There is never an error code.
Has anyone experienced this with the Whirlpool Washer.
Sidenote: We have had a Splendide Washer and dryer in our previous two motor homes and never had a problem, running them almost daily. I am questioning the reliability of the Whirlpool.

Like anything mechanical, they are subject to failure. I have the Whirlpool in my 2016 DS 4369 and it works great. My friend had a Splendide Washer in his coach and had to have it repaired 3 times.
If it has moving parts then eventually (sooner or later) it will break.

We're having the same problem. We started running the extra spin option on all loads. This work 99% of time.
I'm waiting til we get through with this trip to tear into it. That will be May.

Last week, I called Newmar and spoke to my customer service specialist who told me that Newmar would make arrangements with Whirlpool to get the washer serviced. He said that, in many instances, it takes two service appointments. One to have a mobile RV technician remove the washer from its mounts and set in on the floor. Then the Whirlpool service technician will arrive to repair the washer. Evidently, the Whirlpool service technicians will not remove the washer in a motor home. He didn't mention who will reinstall the washer after it has been serviced.
As of this evening, we have had enough of babysitting this undependable washer. I sent an email to our Newmar customer service specialist requesting that he initiate a warranty repair. YUK!!!

I about passed out when I discovered our new 2015 DS had a Whirlpool washer in it. 45 years ago we purchased our first w/d for the house, a set of Whirlpools. About 20 years later we had to replace them. Then after another 20 years we had to do it again, but this time the Whirlpools only lasted about 3 1/2 years before the transmission and timer went out. Was told it would cost more to repair than to purchase a new set so we just went with a cheap set of GEs since nothing was going to last anytime at all. The dealer said normal service time was about 7 years.
It's bad enough replacing or repairing these machines at home, but in the tight quarters of a motor home will be disasterous.
Our last coach had a Splendide, which never needed repairs for the 11 years we owned the coach (other than 2 different parts replacement due to freezing since Splendid's manual was wrong on how to winterize).

We have a Ventana LE - 2017 that we purchased 12/20/16. We are currently in Florida. Our washer is very temperamental - sometimes it starts the first time, other times it will take a couple of times to get it started. Unfortunately, we have had very poor experience with Whirlpool - have a new refrigerator at home that the compressor quit after 18 months. Whirlpool says - too bad. You didn't buy an extended warranty and you just never know when the appliance will quit!
Needless to say, we are NOT delighted to have 4 Whirlpool appliances in our motorhome but that is what Newmar installed. I can't imagine having to put extended warranties on all four of these units!
We will have to check with Newmar when we get back to see what the next step is.
And of course, I convinced my wife that we should get the washer/dryer!!!

Our Maytag (aka Whirlpool) washer started doing the same thing about a month ago, when it was two months out of warranty. The Internet is full of these stories about this unit, but there is really no viable option for another washer that will fit in the space we have.
Almost any diagnostic/repair work requires removing the washer...a monumental task even for able-bodied people.
I couldn't find an appliance repair service through Maytag/Whirlpool that would work on a unit in an RV. RV service providers were booked out for weeks before they could come out to remove the toilet, which blocks access to the washer and I wasn't confident enough to undertake that myself. We needed a faster answer.
Finally, a local independent repairman worked with me to get the unit out and open it up. He found that both the motor and the motor control board tested bad...each part costs over $200 for the part alone -- and they are very difficult to find in any supplier's inventory, not to mention the labor cost to replace them and reinstall the washer.
At that point, it seemed better to look at just replacing the whole thing.
I found a new unit available through Home Depot for $598, but it still took a week to arrive (everyone else wanted at least 2 weeks). Lifting the new 150-pound unit into the coach up the stairs and over the passenger seat nearly killed us. Fortunately, after about 4 hours of labor to get the unit back in the cabinet, hooked up, dryer on top, and all the trim replaced, it seems to be working now so the wife is happy again.
Things I learned through this:
-- This washer is trash and I don't have any expectations that it will last.
-- My next coach will definitely not have anything blocking access to the washer/dryer so that it can be removed by someone other than Superman.
-- Getting the unit through the front door requires at least 2-3 VERY strong people to maneuver up the narrow, twisting, steep stairs.
-- We still feel like there is great value to having a washer and dryer in the coach.
-- Newmar should work urgently to find an alternative to these units. The most appealing are the Bosch stackable units, but they require 240V service which we don't have in the coach.

How would you like to have this washer in a LA , Essex or a KA.....
It less than $700. I think most people would pay more to get a good quality washer/dryer. Would you not do this in your S&B?
How about this.
I would rather have a good washer and even if it did not match.

And that's the problem...it requires 240V power which isn't in most coaches today. That's why you see that Whirlpool set even in Foretravel and Newell coaches!

I also wish the dryer was on a shelf, not right on top of the washer, but it doesn't look like there's enough vertical space to do that. Having to wrestle both units in and out at the same time (Newmar fastens them together with hefty steel plates) is really a pain.
If anyone has used either of these units successfully in a DSDP 4018, I'd love to hear how they worked out, particularly if you kept the original dryer.

WOW, Our whirlpool washer and dryer have been working great for 9 years this month. I always thought my wife was trying to wear them out as she can't stand to have dirty clothes in the hamper and it seems like she is washing clothes continuously. Maybe we've been lucky but ours has always, to date anyway, worked flawlessly.
