I use a grill mat that is flame and heat resistant under my smoker?

I have abandoned the bamboo table idea. Two reasons:

1) HEAT as mentioned. It's not something I want to be worrying about. I just did a test and ran the grill up to 450 and at 375 it was 230 degrees on the bamboo at the hottest point so I aborted the test at this temp and saw no reason to continue.

2) The drip can needs to hang off the right side and the table top method doesn't support this well.

Legs going back on and remaining with the proven design from GMG.

Good thinking, let us know when dinner is ready!

I bought an aluminum folding table, rated to 100lbs. I added a square piece of 3/4 inch plywood between the smoker and the table to better distribute the weight (the table has slats) and to protect the table from the heat. I then added aluminum foil to the plywood, but don’t think that was necessary.

Instead of the drip can, I found some narrow/shallow aluminum pans at Walmart that I use to catch the drippings. I don’t think I’ll ever use the legs or drip pan again. I also use the plywood square when I put the smoker on campground tables, which is not often.

We have a Davy Crockett smoker. Here’s the same table, $50 on Amazon it says 175lbs capacity.

Yep, I found this out the hard way while grilling a tri-tip. I'm looking at getting one of these tables:

I use these as well. They fit when you've removed the fold up legs on the DC, and are disposable.

Picked up a DC but having issues with it. Has a hard time getting up to temp, and if it does, it will not hold temp. Been back and forth cleaning out firebox (recharging if needed), but it seems igniter isn’t heating much - just barely glows only on the half closest to where it’s mounted. Nothing on tip. Anyone see this?

For additional protection when I use my portable table I have a piece of fire treated plywood under the smoker. I was lucky enough to be able to get this from a construction job I was running before I retired. This lays flat in my compartment under my smoker also to support the compartment bottom.

My Camp Chef ZG and Camp Chef Yukon last weekend in Virginia. My plan is to get a Camp Chef Pursuit, which will be a 1000 times more travel friendly then the ZG, but this works for now.
The Yukon has interchangeable attachments for the top. Griddles, grills, pizza ovens and more. In the pic I have 2 of the 14” griddles on it for breakfast. You can also use it as just a burner. We use it to steam crab as well.

So, how do you transport this setup? It looks like it would be difficult to put in a storage bay.

The Yukon actually breaks down into a storage bag and is quite mobile. Sets up in about 3 minutes.
The ZG is a little more difficult. The legs do come off in a pinch, this time I had it in the back of the pickup.
The ZG isn’t going to become a regular travel companion. I’ll be getting the Camp Chef Pursuit for that.

We decided last night to upgrade our Traeger PTG for a GMG Davy Crockett. We have had a lot of temp control issues with the PTG. I was only cooking some brats yesterday and had the temp set at 180. It varied between 145 and 380 going up and down a few times. I would be angry if I had an expensive piece of meat on there and couldn't have better control of temp and timing for when it would be done. We have used a GMG Daniel Boone at home for many years and absolutely love it.
