We have always enjoyed the sounds of trains wherever we lived at. But I told my wife to bring ear plugs. I have an advantage over her - I take out my hearing aids when I go to bed. I think our biggest issue with the trains will be Sophie which is our Yorkie. She has never heard a train before and she hates loud noises.

I am surprised by Newmar owners complaining so about the train noise. Some people are looking for something to complain about when here at CN and this is it. As we travel 15K plus miles a year and stay at least 40 to 50 RV parks we find more then half the time trains are not to far away. Quit travels for those who complain about train noise.

No one has to stay in a brand new, beautiful, convenient, FREE campground. Pay money, get up earlier and drive here every morning and not here trains.

I have a suggestion for those folks who may be lighter sleepers or more sensitive to train or other noises outside the coach. White noise.

We are full timers so are regularly moving around and experience different noises outside the coach all the time. As mentioned above, you can get pretty used to the noises outside your normal home and stop hearing them, even if they might be loud. Since we have no “normal” we use a free white noise app every night so wherever we park it sounds like home and we are less bothered by the local noises. Yes, trains seem to be part of RV life but sometimes it’s planes, or boats or ....... We did hear the trains at NCN, but we heard them at OCN too. With our white noise app I think they only woke us up once or twice.

Additionally, strangely enough it was the clip clop of hooves that woke us up more on the days we didn’t have to be up at 5 because it was SO different than most of the noises we usually hear. I liked it tho!

Thanks for mentioning the white noise app. How does it work? And how do you get it? I've heard of machines for that but they aren't free.

We were fulltime and that's when we learned to scope out campgrounds that weren't on top of train tracks. Highways haven't been as bad since we upgraded to our Newmar

I played the radio in the bedroom to counter the outside noise. I'm a classic rock guy, if I can find it - I don't remember the fm radio channel that I chose.

As I said earlier - it has nothing to do with Newmar, it's just a part of the Nappanee environment. If people are advised to bring a noise cancelling "thing" then they are not surprised. If they choose not to use it because they like train sounds, great. I don't think any of us are complaining, it is what it is, but we were not prepared. I think a subtle note in the welcome letter is not too much to ask. They have to rewrite it anyway.

My husband and I use a little fan at night. We turn it on and we don't hear anything.

The easiest thing for me is to simply turn on the roof air fan. It does a good job of masking outdoor sounds and I don't have to figure out where to store it.

So you just run the fan all night? Can you still use a.c. or heat if you're running the fan?

Yes you can run the AC and the ceiling fans at the same time but that would be wasting energy. Wal-Mart has sound machines with many different choices of soft noise which is what we use.

I found a soundtrack of just trains then you can’t tell the difference and fall right to sleep. And I play it from time to dream about my FPU days and reminisce. [emoji445] [emoji920]

This is the free app we use. There are tons of different sounds to choose from, some are rather strange.... vacuum cleaners, frogs, clothes dryers, even noisy city streets for the urban dwellers among us. The wind chime one would make me crawl out of my skin. We just choose a nice water sound. I found a nice train travel one for Neal, but it is just track sounds, no whistles unfortunately.Click image for larger version

We definitely go to Walmart enough. Will have to check it out. Thanks.
