Huh??
Two weeks ago there were definitely a few (typically there is only a few) new rigs scattered around at the various buildings and the service lots were full of happy Camp Newmar'ites awaiting warranty or for-pay service - even SOBs. Yes the production buildings were closed, but then again, the Newmar facilities never really exhibit intense industrial activity - from the outside! Newmar has and still ONLY builds to order, hence they never have piles of rigs or bare chassis laying around - like most of the SOBs. That build-to-order Newmar philosophy is probably the key reason they have more likelyhood of making it through these tough times in good shape. No debt tied up in unsellable spec built rigs. Sounds like just another "sleepy looking" day in Nappannee!

RVDude,
My last visit to Newmar was in 06. There were coaches all over the place and dozens and dozens of chassis parked in staging areas. Business was Great ! The change in the RV business and the economy has really changed things. I only know of a couple of companies that are in the build-to-order business. They will be the survivors. I hope things get better for them all.......

I'm glad to hear that the butter lasts that long.

I'm ar Newmar alright. Due to some other issues only observed here, my stay will be probably until Friday. We will not be staying in the coach as some paint is needed and some other work making it faster to leave it in the shop. We may stay in it on Tuesday or Thursday, or, if required not at all. I can't express how excellent the service is here. Today I had 5 people working on three different items, the largest being three on removing the big awnings on both sides and installing new sealant type.
Newmar is undoubtably the BEST!

Jeff, There was a sealant tape used under the side cap that runs at the top of the coach side just below the roof mounted awnings. The right side started showing signs of sealant leaking out. Apparently, cleaning it off is not the answer, instead it must be replaced with a new type of sealant tape. To do that everything must be removed, the awnings and caps on both sides. The old sealant must be removed and the new installed. Removal of the old is done with a scrapper to get it all off. Slow job.
The issue is only cosmetic, it does not leak or anything. Anyway, that's about it.

Thanks lug... Sounds like another stellar over-the-top Newmar performance.

BTW - As long as you are there here's a bling and neat fix you might want them to do. Each is about $30 in parts, and each took me about an hour to install. The Newmar folks can do (and have done both) the installs as well.... The bling has a story up there - see Ms. Parts (Jeanne Stump) for details...

Here's the bling - These new rope lights are switched from the existing outside step/door light switch and the nighttime illumination of that dark stairwell is way way way beyond expectations. This needs to be standard. Rope lights part # 92847 (76" 12v flex light w/ flange). Use a leather punch every 5 bulbs/inches or so to make a small hole in the flange for #4 x 3/8 pan head (phillips) metal screws and just screw the flange (so it is behind the light tube) right into the underside of the dash using a 1/4" drive air ratchet w/ phillips bit. String 12v wire from the outside step light up through the aquahot heater hose stuffing right behind the glove box and you are done.

Note the aquahot air handler duct louvers I added under the dash to increase heat flow for those crazy months I spend in -20F Colorado winters while you guys are sunnin and umbrella drinkin in Fla! Use a 3in metal cutting hole saw and part # 41919 (louver round dash black) and drill out all 4 AH dash ducts and pop rivet the new louvers in place and zip tie the existing ducts onto the louvers. I'll probably even do the EvansTempcon dash heater ducts as well so I can get more heat while driving in the frigid areas. The airflow increase is tremendous in that area of the camper that is most chilled in severe winter due to all the glass. HVAC Zone #1 is now able to evenly heat the entire zone in the really cold w/o running south or using an electric heat cube!)

Here's the functional change. How many times have you caught your sleeve on that nasty EX chrome screen door handle? How much more screen door rattle when you close the entire door can you take.... Fix both this way... Part # 014604 (hndl scrn door frt 07LB/08EX MA from PTL industries). Installs as shown. I'll add a small pull knob to cover the existing hole that the chrome door lever used, or you can just use those black plastic snap in hole covers.

Hey Jeff, That looks great. I don't know whether I can get them to do anymore as I just got a phone call saying they may not be able to finish everything by the end of the week. And I'm talking paint too, so can't just take it. I have to be out of here no later than Friday. I will wait and address that issue tomorrow.

Peter, I wish I'd have read this and known you were there, I'd have said hello. I arrived Monday night, checked the coach into service Tuesday morning, and drove my toad home. I may have parked directly behind you, I was surprised to see only one empty spot. I didn't figure service would be that busy.
My refrigerator is still not working, in fact it is worse since Dometic came here and claimed to have fixed it. I left it there and will pick it up in July on my way north.

Hi John, Actually, my rig was inside the shop from Monday, 6 am until I left out the back of the shop on Wednesday afternoon. We stayed in a hotel to help move things faster. Sure wish you could have contacted me, I would have loved to say hello'

Jeff, Thanks for the bling pic. I'm coming back to Camp Newmar on the 22nd of June and have it ordered to be installed. What a great company Newmar is!

I'm in Mitchell, South Dakota right now, just for the night. We love Cabella's.
