Why do so many coaches come with high polished tile?

One of the very few things I don’t love about our coach is the high polished floors. While they certainly look nice, we have found that they can get VERY slippery when wet, and both my wife and I have had some close calls getting out of the shower and even the dogs have face-planted when hitting a wet patch on occasion. I would think with a significant portion of the buyers of these coaches being “older” that this could pose a major slip and fall risk?

I know a couple of years back the King-Aires had some of the matte, more rustic, textured tile and I really liked that and a lot of people and dealers optioned it on their non King Aire coaches.

Is it a “luxury” thing? A cost thing? Just what the current design trends are calling for?

I would love to see at least the option for a matte tile offered in the future. I don’t think we will ever buy another coach with the high polished flooring again.

I think it is a option. A friend ordered a 2018 Dutch Star with matte rustic finish.

Order the King Aire flooring on a 2019 DS. Best decision easy to clean and no slip.

I agree the high gloss tile is not practical. Like the vessel sink it was likely dreamed up by designers for the wow factor at RV shows. Consumers bought in & the rest in history. I actually would have preferred a upscale looking luxury vinyl over tile period. Tile is not ideal on a surface that will likely make it crack over time from flexing.

I believe it’s primarily driven by interior design trends, and as noted above, the wow factor. Our current home was built in the same year as our current coach, and it’s amazing how similar the decor is, with respect to backsplash tiles, bath/kitchen fixtures, and Floor/shower tiles, etc. In fact, it’s so close, DW exclaimed when she first saw our coach “Why didn’t we get heated floors in our home also?”
As noted above, certain selections can be easily changed and some ordered from upper lines. Our DS 4369 has upholstery, window fabrics, tile and tile patterns from the same year MountainAire Selections. Ran about $4,000 iirc.

We also ordered King Aire flooring on our 2018 Dutch Star. Wife did not want the gloss floors for that very reason.

I think a lot of class As are decorated to look like a Vegas hotel room.

We were looking for something that did not look like that and it took some work.

Not to be a putz, but I like the glossy tile flooring. I guess it's personal taste. I know many use the King Air tile and maybe we should have looked at the options for different flooring, but we were starting to get outside of our budget.

We bought an all tile coach for a reason, we didn't want ANY carpet. With that said we have carpet in two places, the entry steps and a carpet in the bath. The carpet in the bath is the same size as the engine cover so it covers the frame of that opening. I just did a post on non slip shower strips, so we step out of the shower onto the carpet....no slipping.

As I read the post, I was trying to picture when we've ever walked around the coach where the floor was wet and caused us to slip. I can't think of a time in seven years. Maybe the issue is more about dogs not getting traction, but we don't have pets. I have big fat feet, so maybe that helps!

After a travel day, my wife hits the floor with a quick broom into the floor vac dust pan and then a quick run of a Swiffer over all the tile. Even then there is no slip.

I think it sells better. So if the RV dealer is buying one for the lot thats the one he is buying.

They are beautiful and soo easy to keep clean ! And a well placed throw rug out side the shower and in front of the sink work wonders.

We selected the mat finish KA tile primarily because I don't like the reflection of every ceiling light showing on the floor and second due to being non-slip.

The coaches come with polished stone floors because some designer decided it looked cool. It's the same reason a lot of coaches are coming with dark cabinetry, some one thinks it looks cool. As for me give me some kind of quality vinyl and oak or maple cabinets and I'll be much happier. Alas, those thing generally aren't available if your spending any sort of money. I guess I'm just not high class enough to own an RV.
