Why is the Dutch Star not considered a "Luxury DP"

Friends -

I have a quick question for you.

I was just perusing the Newmar website, salivating over the four "Luxury DP" choices from the Mountainaire on up to King Aire... (Wow)

But - Why is it the Dutch Star is not among that group? Seems luxurious to me! I have not yet seen any in person. (YET!!). Many of the same options available seem to span the DS line too...? Just wondering why Newmar delineates or separates Dutch from that group of (4).

I would guess it is a marketing thing. You can buy a DS or for a few dollars more you can purchase a "luxury coach".

One difference is the paint. Both DS and 'Luxury' lines have Full-Paint Masterpiece Finish™. But the DS the says "with Diamond Shield Protection on Front Cap".

While the Luxury series say "with Cut & Buff and Nano Shield Protection on Front Cap".

So different paint treatment.

Marketing departments are very aware that some folks out there looking are brand, designer name and just FANCY word conscience. Those words do effect some folks decisions. "Well, we have a LUXURY coach."

Well I happen to think our coach is kind of luxurious as well. It's luxurious to us and after all isn't that what matters?? "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder."

My Dad passed away back in 1978. I went to IN for the funeral and my Mom told me, "Well you know the casket is Hermetically sealed." My poor Mom probably didn't know what that meant but that's what she was told by the folks who sold it to her. I guess it sounded good but I thought to myself, " Mom is it really going to make a difference?"

Hi roadtriplove,
Coaches with Star in the name are Newmar's standard coach. The exception is Ventana (a whole different story). If a coach has Aire in the name it is part of Newmar's luxury line. The exception is ESSEX (a whole different story).

It would take too long to point out the differences between the Star and Aire line. To find out for yourself, there are two choices.
1. Download and print the brochures.
2. Attend a RV show where Newmar has a large presence. The next show is in Tampa, Florida in the middle of January. Go to FRVTA - Florida RV SuperShow for additional information.

At a very high level, the eye candy between the lines will be evident. One can also take a look at the GVWR in the specifications of the coach. The additional weight of AIRE line coaches usually means more of everything in the coach is high line features and finishes.

All this being said, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

I'd also consider the Dutch Star as a luxury coach, I'd also consider Cadillac or Lincoln luxury brands, but compared to a Bentley...


Higher quality and/or more labor intensive finishes and amenities, heavier chassis, more power and so on.

I would agree, it's all just marketing and perception. I feel my 2015 Ventana 4037 is pretty luxurious.

For me DS is luxury. I don't own one but if I buy a new Moho it would be high in the list. The Aires I have seen are only lacking a stripper pole. I guess I'm more of a Chevy guy.

If a Mountain or King Aire are "luxury" coaches...what would you call a $2M Prevost Marathon or a IH-45 Foretravel???
