Window replacement

Has anyone ever replaced the fixed glass passenger window in a Dutch Star with a vertical slider. I just e-mailed Newmar to see if it is possible. If it is, I would like to know how difficult it is in case I choose to do it myself?

You might want to talk to these guys. They will give you the straight scoop on whether you should try it or they will know an installer in your area.

Clamp ring windows are a cinch to remove and install. Does take two people though. From the inside remove the clamp ring and with one person outside, carefully push the window out. You might have to use a razor blade to cut the sealant around the outside. Clean up the old sealant, install new putty tape around the window frame and put it in place and press firmly to the body. Go back inside and reinstall the clamp ring. Once it is tightly in place go back outside and scrap off the excess putty that has squeezed out. Using a NON silicone sealant apply a bead of sealant around the top and sides of the window frame. You are then done.

Had 6 windows replaced this past winter at the Newmar factory due to blown seals inside the double pane. They replaced the fixed passenger side window with a vertical slider and the window over the sofa with an emergency escape window. We had not requested either of these but we appreciate the fact that they thought to do this.

Ours came that way so I'm sure it can be done UNLESS it's bigger than the window you now have. Newmar, due to the hung wall construction, puts an aluminum frame all the way around each wall opening. Not something you want to cut out. Now, if you had a laminated wall it'd be no problem as they usually lack the framework and you can cut a bigger hole easily.
