Windshield Crack

Upon our return home yesterday, we noticed an 8-inch crack in the windshield high on the passenger side. There was no cat-eye origin. We noticed no rock chip while driving. We parked in quite level parking spots on the trip so there should have been minimal coach torquing. Any ideas what might have caused this?

Hit a pothole, unexpectedly.......? Dip when going in or out of a gas station....? Did any of the gasket shrink or move, near the crack.....?

Possibly stressed when they installed it. Caused a pressure point where it cracked. Probably didn't take a lot. I would guess that Newmar will not take responsibility so you'll be out the deductible with your insurance company, plus the install time. Think of the positive side...

Are Ventanas any more or less prone to this issue than any other models?

Good question. If you could establish a pattern, you might have something. Not sure how you would target that audience. Remember there are many many owners not on this site.

Temp repair

Have one in mine...from back into a space with a unseen big hump that I think twisted body and or frame. Had it drilled and plugged as emergency fix...at least 3500 miles ago....still not spreading

We have a '15 Ventana 3636 (bath and a half model). Haven't experienced what you describe. Hopefully (for you and the rest of us) your event was an anomaly and it won't be repeated.

I had a crack in my towed windshield with good Sam insurance. They said if it was smaller than a dollar bill they would come fix it, and they did. Sent someone right to the campground. If it was bigger, then it required replacement along with a $400 deductible.

I guess I'll check in with Steinbring after the July 4 holiday. Maybe we'll check out the New Air while we're there. Seems to be a lot of money for that short of coach but it has a lot of great features. We like short.

In the "hmmm, that's interesting department", we have a 2015 Ventana 4037 that has had two windshields crack.

The first was when is was about a year old, before we bought it. The second was three weeks ago while we were purchasing it from the dealer, just after we had paid for it while we were still in Tucson. To say the least we were literally sick about. The dealer took care of it; no problems, no cost to us (hats off to LazyDays Tucson, it was a very good buying experience).

Hopefully this cracked windshield thing is not a Ventana tendency!

Dave

We have a horseshoe shaped crack in the windshield just below the passenger side wiper. This was initiated by a rock strike in KY/TN. Hasn't grown in over a year. Also have a "star" that was "repaired", way up high on the driver side. Also had a fog light taken out by a rock. I did replace that. I just see these as reminders of our inaugural voyage in this unit to Disney World. With the condition of the roads and road construction where we routinely travel, I am in no hurry to get a new "acre of glass" installed.

My Bay Star came with a protective film on the glass. Probably not going to stop chassis torquing or install issues but hopefully will help with rock chipping issues. It is one honking large piece of glass.

We have 2 friends, one with a 2017 Ventana, the other a 2017 Ventena le, both have had to deal with a cracked windshield. The le was parked in storage and windshield hit by a tree trimming company, the Ventana was at dealer for work. No crack when dropped off and dealer said they didn't do it. Newmar fixed it under warranty.

We had a stone impact on a trip last month which caused a significant crack in our Ventana windshield. All covered by insurance, but it is one heck of a job to replace that monster of a window. 96 degrees here in FL and the poor fellas were soaked before they even got the old glass out. Independence RV recommended the contractor (D&K Enterprises in Clearwater) and they were superb.

We also hit a good-sized bird at 65mph which didn't damage the windshield, but the same cannot be said for the poor crow.
