Windshield Popping Out
Today I parked and leveled and went out to put the solar screens on the windshield. I saw the corner of the windshield on both the drivers side and the passenger side is popped out about 3 inches on the top and 3 inches on the side. For some time I've noticed a little white line developing around the seal and now I realize the seal was moving. I've put duct tape on the separation to prevent a flood when it rains. I called a glass company in the Jacksonville Florida area and they said it has to be taken in to them. Florida replaces windshields with no deductable if they are broken but I'm guess that replacing the seal and resetting the glass in not covered. I hope there is no danger of the windshields falling out the next time we travel.

We had one side pop out and we found a guy that was in willing to fix it for $100. We have a 2004 Gulf Stream with a giant windshield.

There are a number of mobile glass places in the JAX/OP area. Try some of them before you move the coach.

There are a number of mobile RV windshield companies. Be sure to use an RV specialist and not just the neighborhood auto glass store. We ran into all kinds of problems with a local glass company. They just don't have the equipment for a large curved one piece RV glass. Joe

Thanks folks I will see if I can find a mobile windshield company that has experience with RV's. Doc Marc, we're at NAVSTA Mayport for the next 9 days. I called Lee and Cates because the one on Kingsley replaced the windshields on our last rig. They were the company that said they do RV's at their down town location and they'd have to see it before they could tell me what the fix was and $. They also do car windshields with their mobile service.

Floridakamper - I steer clear of L&C because they are usually MUCH higher than Gordon's Glass on 17 in OP and have had some bad press abut shady dealings with customers. We live in OP in the winter & summer here in Maine.
Who is your coach insured with? You might want to call the insurance company & ask them for advice as to who to do the work. Explain to them that if a repair service comes to you, the cost to the insurance company will be a lot less than if they have to pay for a new windshield after it falls out & breaks in transit somewhere.

Thanks Doc. I'm insured with Nationwide. If it would be covered under the no deductable "glass" coverage -- that would be good. If it was covered under my comprehensive coverage -- that would be bad. I've got $1000 deductable. I'll give Gordon's Glass a call and see what they say. I've done business with them in the past and they're only a few miles from my home in Fleming Island. Enjoy Maine. We've spent summers in Wells Beach in years past.

Be sure they use the correct glass sealer (no silicone) and let it set at least 24 hours before moving the rig!!

Guardian Glass came out to the campground this morning and got the windshield back into place. They said it would happen again unless I came into their shop and they removed and reglued both windshields. I've got an appointment to have the work done when we leave this CG. Thanks for all the help I received here.

I would like to talk to someone at Newmar about the proper installation of a windshield. Any advice on who I should ask for? There appears to be some difference of opinion on whether the glass is glued to the windshield seal or not. The seal has to be glued to the opening edge of the front cap but whether the glass is glued or floats in the seal is the question. The glass company I'm using says glue it but I want to make sure because they say no one quarantees the glass won't pop out or get stress cracks.

I called Newmar and they said glue the gasket to the fiberglass and to the glass.
