Winegard Cable Splitter/DirecTV Issues

Our DirecTV Genie in the bedroom quit working. DirecTV sent a new Genie and that did not fix the problem. The TV works on the external antennae. I tested the HDMI cable and it is OK. I now suspect the Coax Cable input to the Genie. Is it possible that the Coax Splitter in the front cabinet is defective? I have attached a photo of that splitter.

Has anyone else had the Coax splitter go bad?

They fail all the time. So do the AV switch boxes.

Run a coax directly from the dis to the receiver and if that works, it’s the splitter, box or cable ends. Coax rarely fails in its length. It usually a connection.

The living room TV is working. The coax cable from the dish to the splitter must be good. That is why I suspect the splitter.

Before you do anything else, go on the roof. There are two coax cables on the satellite, one running to the front of the coach and one running to the bedroom. Loosen and then tighten both, unless you can identify the one running to the bedroom. The coax cable, where it attaches to the satellite, will often get a little corroded and cause the issue. Some coaches had a splitter on the roof, like my 2014 DS. If so, loosen and tighten those.

If that doesn't solve it, connect a long coax cable to the sat and the connect it to the bedroom receiver. This will tell you if it's a coax issue.

Don,

Thanks for the reply but I think I only have one coax cable running from my Winegard Traveler to the front of the coach. Here is a photo of my rooftop connections. I think that one coax cable runs to the splitter shown in the first photo.

They keep changing how they run the cables, my 2014 had a splitter on the roof, out in the open. It also had the cable from the roof to the front TV go bad.

Make sure you at least break those connectors loose on the splitter and then retighten. You can also run a cable from the input side of the splitter to the bedroom and see if you have the issue.

Please help me understand the wiring logic. This Sony bedroom Television is connected to the DirecTV Genie works on the "TV input" setting using the Winegard roof antennae. It does not work on the "HDMI input." I have verified that the HDMI cable is good between the Genie and the Television.

Question: What feeds the signal input from the roof antennae (not satellite) to the Genie in the bedroom. Is it the HDMI or the coax cable?

I replaced the coax splitter in the front cabinet and still have no DirecTV in the bedroom.

I replaced the coax splitter with an identical splitter bought on Amazon. The Bedroom Genie Mini still does not work. I have confirmed that the Coax cable feed is good and the HDMI cable is good. DirecTV has sent me 2 new Minis and still no dice.

After speaking spending 5 hours on the phone to four DirecTV Tech Support people in India (I assume) I gave up and told them to disconnect the Genie Mini in bedroom and remove it from my account. All the Tech Support people know is to read troubleshooting steps out of a manual.

They wanted to send a technician and I refused because of Covid.
